2010 has been a year of non-stop travel for me it feels like. I’ve been to New York more times than I can count, Las Vegas, Chicago and LA multiple times each, Mexico, Toronto, Washington DC, Lake Tahoe, Denver, Seattle and will be in Dallas tomorrow. Racking up the miles has made me think of all things I love having at hand when bouncing from airport to airport and those things I’m quite sure I would make excellent use of that I don’t already have.

So whether it’s Benefit’s Eye Bright that’s a godsend for early mornings after long flights, my go-to Ray Bans or items to make the trip a bit more stylish like Rebecca Minkoff’s iPad case or Marc by Marc’s funky retro headphones, any of these items are sure to make that girl you know who’s always flying high in the skies one happy, traveling trooper. (Seriously, take it from one who knows it :) )

Chicago, my kind of town

“Chicago, Chicago, I’ll show you around, I love it. Bet your bottom dollar you’ll lose the blues in Chicago, Chicago…” – Frank Sinatra

{gifted} Soft Joie blouse, BR jacket, 7 for All Mankind The Skinny leggings, Steve Madden boots, Old Navy scarf, Ray Ban aviators, Marc by Marc Jacobs Q bag and pendant, Michael Kors watch, Anthropologie bracelets (seen here)

The reason Joie became a staple in my wardrobe was for the casual chicness it breathes into ensembles with hardly any effort (like this simple red dress). Naturally, when they launched their line Soft Joie in the Spring of this year, I was eager to nab a few pieces due to my ridiculous inclination for easy and soft tops to throw on with jeans (read: lazy). Better known as, what I like to refer to as, Sophisticated Basics. Sounds way better, right?

Anyhow, one of my very best friends came to visit me in Chicago this weekend (more photos from the weekend to come, some of which are posted here) and we ate and drank and played for 48 hours of perfection. I just love Chicago. If you haven’t ever visited, you must. My whole time being home, I’ve felt nothing but gratitude for my upbringing here, my family and those friends I still hold close to my heart, despite the miles between us whilst I’m in California.

p.s. Nail color shown is Deborah Lippmann’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and it is officially my new favorite Fall Polish (just beating out Essie’s Material Girl). It’s the most perfectly scrumptious aubergine color you will ever find. Ob-sessed.

modman monday 19 : gimme more!

I gave thanks, I ate and I conquered. Thanksgiving has come and gone, but I’m STILL thinking about the food. Food is the way to my heart.. seriously. I absolutely stuffed myself with the perfect salmon, rosemary roasted potatoes, sweet potato fries, chive + leek mashed potatoes, arugula + radish salad, roasted brussel sprouts, carrot soup, pumpkin pie, chocolate fudge cake and so much more. Here are some great pictures (and blogs, with recipes) that still have me drooling for more:

All I have to say is YUM. I didn’t cook for Thanksgiving this year (surprising, I know!) but you can be sure that I’ll be busting out the cookware for Christmas. Did anyone go out for Black Friday? Do share your big buys (in addition to your big eats)!
