Military at midnight

Military at midnight

I’ve spent the past week in New York and loved it as always. It was full of a lot of work and a lot of meetings, but I was still able to squeeze in drinks & dinners with friends, some time spent shopping in SOHO where I ran into one and two very special blogger bffs and the whole week was topped off with a cherry when this happened to me!

I bought this military-esque jacket the other week (inspired by this) and have found it is the perfect weight to throw on over dresses for more casual affairs. It was so warm in New York I technically didn’t even need a coat, but I kept the air on full blast in my hotel room because in SF I’ve missed having AC, how silly is that?!

Anyways, moral of the story: I truly do <3 NY.

Wine & a wedding

Wine & a wedding

Tibi dress, Steve Madden pumps, Anthropologie necklace, Banana Republic cuff (also seen here)

Wine country is one of my favorite places in California and this weekend spent there celebrating my cousin Chris’ wedding couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a gorgeous day filled with family and love and sunshine and lots of vino. Twas also a great excuse to wear this little Tibi number I bought last summer. Tibi is an all time favorite designer of mine and I think the show I am most looking forward to seeing next week as part of New York Fashion Week. Congrats to Chris & Juliana, love you both!

Denim memories

Denim memories

BCBGeneration dress (on sale in other colors here), Gap denim jacket, J.Crew belt (also seen here), Anthropologie bracelets, Michael Kors watch, Banana Republic heels (also seen here)

Every few years denim jackets are listed by magazines as something to store or put away for the season or year, but I never listen. My Gap denim jacket has served me well since sixth grad. I kid you not. It’s the most worn in thing and topping it over summery dresses has always been a favorite wardrobe combo for me. It’s laid back, yet structured and topping it with a belt makes it a bit less casual. The style is so classic that Gap still carries a nearly identical one, nearly fourteen years later.  and…btw…amen for finally having some summer weather in San Francisco!

Summer Sundays

Summer Sundays

J.Crew ruffled blouse & jacket, Gap boyfriend jeans (also seen here), Cole Haan sandals (also seen here), Marc by Marc Jacobs pendant necklace and bangle, Michael Kors watch and Ray Ban sunnies. Essie nail polish in ‘Haute as Hello‘.

I mentioned the other week that I’m in love with ruffles and once again it’s true. And as I mentioned in the interview I did with Beso.com last week, I rely on J.Crew for basics and every day pieces to throw on and put together. I’ve had this jacket for two years now and I’m quite sure it should be in the trash bin by now (gotta love white, but loathe how it gets so dirty so fast!) and I adore throwing on the easy and inexpensive accessories that Marc by Marc Jacobs carries in their stores. If you’re in San Francisco, the one on Fillmore has a great selection. I highly recommend going and stocking up on the bangles they always have.

White on Stripes

White on Stripes

Oftentimes Free People’s garments can be a bit out there for me. I’m not a gal that often wears hippie inspired pieces with a lot of crochet or tie dye-type detailing, but this is by far one of the most comfortable sweaters I own and it also happens to be years and years old. Nevertheless, I still find myself gravitating towards it on dreary and damp days. I love the length of it and the fact that its horizontal stripes defy what we’re told about steering clear of them. I have, and always will, love horizontal stripes.

Dark & Stormy

Dark & Stormy

BCBG dress, Silence + Noise blazer (also seen here and here), J.Crew skinny metallic belt (similar one available here), Toy Watch, DKNY tights (seriously, the best tights ever), Ray Ban aviators, and Charles David booties

Yep, it’s August and I’m in tights. I’m used to not having summer weather in summer months living in San Francisco, but this is just getting ridiculous. Apparently it’s the coldest summer in San Francisco in 40 years. So while I’ve complained my fair amount, I’m going to grin and bear it now and as Tim Gunn would say, “make it work,” by digging out tights (and wearing sunglasses when not entirely necessary).

And, side note, Andrea and I have argued about the color of this dress for over a year now. I’m convinced that it’s pale blue and she says it is gray. Who is right?!
