{combo to covet} red + leopard

When Rachel Bilson stepped out in the above combo, I was immediately struck by how chic she looked in her Erdem red pants and leopard pumps. As I’ve previously mentioned, I plan to get a pair of red, structured trousers this fall and now think I need a pair of leopard heels to pair with them. I’m loving the entire look below…what do you think?

currently craving: shorts

Two words: Heat.Wave. Holy lord has it been hot! And New York hasn’t even got the worst of it, but man do I find myself stressing first thing in the morning wondering what on earth I can put on that will keep me from completely melting all together. And while I don’t own a ton of shorts, those I do have get a pretty good workout on the closet circuit pretty much all year round (point in case: here, here, here and here).

I’ve recently been obsessed with 3.1 Phillip Lim’s shorts. They are so elegant and chic and beautifully tailored. Every pair I see, I end up wanting. (P.S. this girl has a great collection of 3.1 Phillip Lim pieces like these shorts and these shorts).

My favorite way to wear shorts? Dressing them up with an uber-feminine blouse and a tall pair of heels. What’s your favorite?!

Hi everyone! I’m Anna Jane of the blog See Jane. I write about fashion, food, travel and life’s happenings. I’m filling in for Meghan while she’s vacationing south of the border (lucky).

We’re well into summer now and while it seems like everyone is bracing bright colors, I just can’t get enough for myself. Summer sales have begun and I’m already looking for pieces that will transition right into fall. I think all of these picks could be easily incorporated into my fall wardrobe, where the bright color trend will most definitely continue. It’s simple to “winterize” any outfit with a pair of tights or leather jacket, but I’m currently loving the warm weather so I’d rather not jump into cold weather dressing tactics just yet.

packing list {cabo edition}

In less than a week I am off to Cabo San Lucas with my very best girlfriends from San Francisco. Similar to Nantucket, I wanted to share some of the pieces that I’ll be taking with me on my trip.

This fair-skinned girl needs shade from the sun and a little hat is the perfect way to do so. I plan on bringing two styles (hello, chronic over packer!) Including this one.
Cabo is casual and I love it for it. A cross body shoulder bag is perfect for nights out.
Wore these H&M lace shorts this week (seen here on Twitter) and I love their girly appeal.
Flats, sandals, gladiators…oh my! I learned last year Cabo’s not for heels. I’m sticking to a carry on and just bringing lots of sandal options.
Snapped this flowy Gap dress for $22 last weekend! Available here, but go to a store and get it 40% off!
Lots of delicate and gold rings.
I stocked up on bikinis in solid colors for the beach including this bright teal and this cool and smoky two piece.
I most certainly cannot hit the beach without my trusty aviators.
Finally, I’ll be bringing loads of accessories, mainly bracelets and chunky, colorful necklaces. Wish I had these Alex and Ani bangles to add to my arm as well!

hot child in the city

well, hello new york city summer. it’s nice to meet you. oh wait, not quite. you’re a ridiculously humid, makeup-melting, sweat-inducing, make me stress about what to wear like no other day in my history, force to be reckoned with.

i kid you not, this heat wave of 97+ degree weather we’re having in new york had me running out to buy up tons of dresses all over the city, re-contemplating my beauty routine every morning and learning to accept that come September my hair may not be able to be let down from its permanent resting place in a side bun on my head.

after two+ weeks of stressing over the heat, I’m now settling on my essentials for these kind of temperatures. do you have any go-tos for when the weather becomes unbearably warm? do share! i need all the advice i can get

Summer Heat Essentials:

A breezy, lightweight maxi from Velvet (I have one of theirs in coral and loooove it)
Panama hat for shielding fair skin from the sun
Cute and carefree Karen Walker sunnies
An effortlessly chic and classy La Mer watch (can’t get enough)
Understated gold jewelery that’s light and airy in its appearance
Simple sandals for walking all around the city
A perfectly punchy cross body bag that’s not got me weighed down in this heat

I’m celebrating her and all that makes her special by mentally picturing us twirling around our old apartment in San Francisco sipping champagne in party dresses In case you’re wondering, I got her this for her birthday. #twinies

spring 2011 essentials

I spent much of this weekend wandering all around the city taking in what still feels like my “new” city. I experienced the amazingness that is Mario Batali’s latest endeavor, Eataly (it’s like a slice of heaven!), played tourist when I nibbled on a Magnolia cupcake (I think it was the best one I’ve had yet), visited Madewell’s brand new store in the Flatiron district and did a tad too much shopping. In doing so, however, I mentally took notes of all things I felt necessary for this spring.

Club Monaco crush

Lately I’ve had my eye on all things Club Monaco (especially this lace skirt that is sadly sold out online now!) This casually cool, but classically chic brand has burst back onto the scene and is pumping out pieces that are so my style. Silk chiffon tees, dainty sun dresses, sassy skirts and lightweight fabrics for days. It’s perfect for building a spring wardrobe full of basics with a few feminine and fun sequin skirts and suede shorts thrown in for good measure. Heart you, Club Monaco.

Bright & Bold Separates

It’s no surprise that I’m feeling bright separates for this season (here and here). Zara keeps killing it (in my personal opinion) and if you haven’t been in a store of recent, you must do so, or just check out their April lookbook for inspriation. This spring is the time to go bold so I highly recommend investing in pieces that are in-your-face color and don’t be afraid to pair them with equally as loud pieces. These are just a few of my favorites currently available.
