The 411: Macy’s Girls’ Weekend Out Event

The 411: Macy’s Girls’ Weekend Out Event

This past Thursday I joined Macy’s for one fabulous event. At San Francisco’s Union Square Macy’s the event was hosted with Nick Verreos, Project Runway alum, designer and Red Carpet Fashion Correspondent.

During this fab fashion event Macy’s promoted the upcoming Sex & the City 2 film, gave shoppers 20% off in the Impulse department (I die, really!) and provided cocktails, mini makeovers and manicures and tons of styling tips.

Andrea and I with the fierce, fabulous and funny Nick Verreos

The event featured a closet with pieces pulled that had been inspired by the four leading ladies of S&TC2 and I have to say the stylists were spot on with their garment pulls. Additionally, pieces across the floor were marked to help guide shoppers in styling their shopping picks after Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte. Genius, right? I thought so, too.

Macy’s is host to lots of fun events each month so be sure you’re first to know by checking out their events page here and also sign up for their emails so you’re first to know about fun chances to win giveaways like this past month’s chance to win tickets for you and your gilfriends to Morocco just like the Sex & the City gals.

P.S. If you haven’t played with Macy’s Fashion Director tool on their website, you must. It’s so fun and let’s you feel like you’re playing fashion editor for the day! You can also check out fun videos featuring Clinton Kelly and Rachel Roy as well as other designers.

Owl City – Newest Addition to Our City Tunes

Owl City – Newest Addition to Our City Tunes

owl-city-ocean-eyes_gallery_primaryHands down, our favorite new artist of the Fall season is Owl City. We haphazardly came cross the title single “Fireflies” recently and swooned at the sound. While we originally thought the lead singer was Ben Gibbard of Deathcab for Cutie fame, we rightful admit we were wrong (though their voices are eerily similar).

Lead singer Adam Young’s newest album (and first official mainstream release) is creeping up the charts and definitely finding an audience. Check out the full album Ocean Eyes available on iTunes. While the lyrics are a bit quirky and leave you thinking what did he just say?, it’s perfect for those days when you want some mellow, slightly eclectic tunes to be the soundtrack to your day.

Want to listen before you buy? Check out the Owl City official Website to hear the tunes in their entirety. Also, checkout the official tour schedule to see if Owl City will be coming to a city near you. Unfortunately for us, the SF show at Slim’s in October is sold out – boo hiss!

Style Staple: The Trench

Style Staple: The Trench

Living in SF has given us 1,001 reasons to buy more than our fair share of coats. The daily fog makes it impossible to leave the house in the morning without one. When we first moved here, we invested in a classic khaki trenchcoat from Banana Republic and haven’t regretted that decision since.

Nina Garcia at Marie Claire recently wrote that a trench coat is a wardrobe staple that is worth the extra $$ as an investment piece. Most trenches are timeless, while still offering the option of being a bit edgy. Below are a few of our faves that are hot for fall. As WhoWhatWear mentioned in a recent post, the trench is the perfect accessory to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall.

Forbes Names SF One of the ‘Most Stylish’ Cities in the World

Forbes Names SF One of the ‘Most Stylish’ Cities in the World

ist2_3600911-french-girl-in-redThis week Forbes posted an article about the world’s most stylish cities. We were pleasantly surprised that our home base – San Francisco – was number nine on the list! In fact, author of the post, Laura Sherman notes:

“The Bay Area, for one, is home to dozens of important industrial design firms, including IDEO and Frog Design, not to mention Apple, makers of the technology game-changer, the iPod. The company’s senior vice president of industrial design, Jonathan Ive, has created many other products that millions use–and admire–every day.”

Here’s the complete list:

  1. Paris
  2. Milan
  3. New York
  4. London
  5. Rome
  6. Los Angeles
  7. Tokyo
  8. Madrid
  9. San Francisco
  10. Barcelona

How many of the top 10 cities have you been to? We’ve been to 8 out of 10 – not bad!

Worthwhile Wheels

Worthwhile Wheels

We don’t drive. We are bonafide city girls (and proud of it!), but let’s face the facts: sometimes a girl has got to get from point A to Z and public transportation just won’t cut it! Enter: Car Sharing.

This past weekend, fellow contributor, Andrea and we set out to outfit the new pad (sooo exciting, but soooo stressful). So instead of being somewhat damsels in distress, we hit up Zipcar.  Zipcar is one of those genius ideas you totally wish you would have come up with because it’s just so intuitive and so convenient that it essentially makes you wish you could be friends with the creators.

Zipcar was created for those folks that need wheels and don’t own them (very common in cities given gas prices and the increasingly expensive cost of car insurance. And let’s not even get started on parking conundrums). It’s a company we respect because they’re working to decrease pollution and traffic congestion and bring sustainable solutions to the world. With a one time registration fee of a mere $50 and payment by the hour (varies by vehicle), Zipcar will cover your gas and insurance and ensure you get a clean, reliable vehicle to get you where you want to be.

Ready to get zipping? Want to learn more? Find out additional details about Zipcar here. They’re from coast to coast and if they’re not spinning their wheels where you live- tell them at info@zipcar.com! Our money’s on them making your wish a reality.

w&w on: Shecky's Girls Night Out

w&w on: Shecky's Girls Night Out

sheckys 2Thanks to one of our favorite blogs, Beauty in Real Life, we were able to score tickets to the famed Shecky’s Girls Night Out. These events combine some of the best loves of ladies into two evenings in cities across the country. We’re talking five hours of cocktails, delicious beer and food pairings, fashiosn with markdowns, fun beauty discoveries, and of course, Shecky’s Famous Goodie Bag.

While the goodie bag was great (Avenno, Crest, Shick, Duncan Hines, Goddy samples were just a few of those items included), we have to say, however, we were less than impressed. Essentially, we went in and grabbed our goody bags and avoided the swarms of girls awaiting a complimentary cocktail (we’re talking lines 30 people deep for teensy tiny drinks) and rather “industrial” feeling racks of clothing & jewelry. We can definitely see there’s more potential for this event if they can grab a more “sample sale” sort of feel & get some more high-level exhibitors & sponsors.
