Winter Workout Gear

Winter Workout Gear

Let’s be honest, one of our most pledged New Year’s resolutions is to hit the gym, pronto! Why not kickstart your workout with feel-good and look-good gear.  As the temperature drops below freezing across the nation, there is no excuse to layer the wrong type of workout clothes at the gym.  Unless you’re training for the Winter Olympics or are hitting the slopes, we suggest to dress in breathable layers (think Under Armour “cold gear” wear) at the gym.  Sometimes the right fitting (and feeling) clothes will inspire a brand new work out.  Here are a few ideas, all in basic grey.

The Bag- Stella McCartney for adidas has some fabulous and chic gym bags. Check out the reasonably priced “Hitrenn Bag” for $140.

The Top: Racerbacks are still the best for the gym in terms of flexibility and movement.  Be sure to layer with a fleece zip-up or cotton hoodie while warming up.  Our favorites include Victoria’s Secret VSX Line of workout wear, or pick up a few CP by Champion tops at your local Target.

Long California Pullover Fleece by American Apparel

Pants- lululemon has the most amazingly fitted and comfortable pants.  We adore the “Wear with All” pants that you can wear while working out, running errands, or lounging around. Just don’t forget to stretch it out and work up a sweat!

Crunch brings new classes for the new year

Crunch brings new classes for the new year

Ah the season of resolutions. We’re pretty sure we’ve already said more than half a dozen we plan to do in the New Year, so here’s hoping, but one is definitely a complete cliche and that is to get our butts back in the gym (sound familiar?)! Thankfully our gym, Crunch offers super fun and entertaining classes that we are counting on to get our blood pumping and calories cutting.

Henceforth we were super excited to hear about some fabulous sounding classes coming to Crunch gyms here in San Francisco come January. We CANNOT wait for the Stiletto Strength!!

Stiletto Strength: B.Y.O.H. – Bring Your Own Heels and strut your stuff runway style in this calf-boosting, posture-building, cat-walking diva class.

Beaming: Go beyond total body training in this mentally invigorating, core-based training experience. This barefoot workout is performed on the Beamfit , a 6 inch wide, 5 foot long beam that creates instability to improve balance and coordination all while creating perfect alignment from head to toe.

Indo Boarding: Whether you’re into skateboarding, snowboarding or just want to tone your lower half, this class will help to increase your balance, coordination and strength using the Indo Board.

Burlesque Beat: Work out your inhibitions while crafting the body of a diva! The totally vintage, 40 Deuce-style dance art set to jazz music includes sultry, steamy moves guaranteed to heat up the room.

Run Away With Me

Run Away With Me

We run all day, everyday. We run to work, we run home, we run to the gym, we run in our heels, and we run in circles.  Why not run in (practical) style? We are gushing over Stella McCartney for Adidas‘ running line, it’s stylish and practical.  As the weather gets colder, stay warm and fashionable in these jackets.  We love the detailed, ruffled sleeves, textured hoodie, and layered parkas.  Stella brings a clever touch of femininity to the adidas line. Go on, run away with me!

Love These Shorts: Lululemon Speed Shorts

Love These Shorts: Lululemon Speed Shorts

1381_black_neon_purple_l_thumbAs we’re getting back into our workout routine, we’ve fallen head over heels for the Lululemon Run Speed Shorts. We converted to Lululemon a while back and think these shorts are perfect and the best part? Great for multiple purposes (i.e.: we moved into our new apartment in them- so comfy, we rafted in them this weekend and we’re running in them at the gym.)

Why else are they so great? These Speed Shorts are:

  • Ultra light short for running, tri & gym
  • Made of wicking & quick dry shell fabric with 4-way stretch
  • Have a Coolmax liner with mesh for airflow
  • The cute little token Lululemon secure pocket for money, your gym card or keys
  • Soft wicking waistband with drawstring & elastic for support

Clean Up Time: Your Yoga Mat

Clean Up Time: Your Yoga Mat

YogaMat14_ProdLargeSo a conversation with one of our roomies just led us to the question, “how does one clean a yoga mat?” Of course, naturally, we turn to Google and were able to find a great little article on the blog Daily Cup of Yoga and thought we’d share what we found on the chance that you may have pondered the same cleaning question, but not yet found an answer.

If your mat is lightly soiled, use a spray bottle, damp sponge, or terry cloth rag to apply a solution of two cups of water and four drops of dish soap. Rub the soiled areas. Wipe the mat with clean water; then rub with a dry terry cloth towel. Hang to air dry.

If your mat is heavily soiled, submerge it in a solution of warm water and mild detergent; use very little soap as any residue may cause the mat to become slippery during future use. Thoroughly hand wash the mat and rinse in clean water. After squeezing out the excess water, lay the mat on a dry towel and roll the mat and towel together. Stepping on the rolled up mat will squeeze more moisture out of the mat and into the towel. Then unroll and hang to air dry.
