long weekend

Even though we’re just coming out of the holidays, I could not be happier that I’m off on Monday and will be enjoying a long weekend. Which is also why Taylor and I are heading to Washington DC this weekend. We’ll visit some of my family, stay in Georgetown, visit the Smithsonian, brunch and enjoy our nation’s pretty, pretty capitol.

Have any recommendations for us two ladies as we hit the town?! Would love to hear them!

chicago bound

Early tomorrow morning I head home to Chicago for a week. I have never been more ready to see my family and get in the holiday spirit. I’ll be working for a few days in the city, seeing old friends, shopping and spending nights cozy by the fire with my parents, sister and brothers. We’ll also be partaking in this again. Finally, I’ll be getting started on all the w&w gift guides for this year! (See 2010′s here.)

This week I’m out in my favorite place on earth: Beaver Creek, Colorado. Spending time with my family, laying by the pool, cooking, driving throughout the Rocky Mountains, visiting Farmer’s Markets, shopping and soaking up the most breathtaking views that I’ll never get sick of. I may be more spare in posting this week, but if you follow me on Twitter you can get in on all the beautiful surroundings I’m taking in!

This past weekend I drove down to Long Beach Island (aka: a portion of the Jersey Shore) and it was the perfect laid back, low key weekend I was craving after a pretty awful week last week. We laid out on the beach, threw the football around in the ocean, sipped delicous cocktails and prosecco, played games, ate tons of yummy food and overall just relaxed. My friend Sara’s family owns a beautiful home on LBI and were such great hosts. I loved it there and can’t wait for an upcoming girls weekend there in the fall!

I had such a wonderful time on nantucket. it was a perfect balance between work and play and I loved soaking up the charm and delight that this island playground is full of. While the weather wasn’t perfect (except the first day), I still enjoyed darling bakeries, rich seafood, beautiful sunsets, plenty of prep and lovely drives along the coast. Outfit post to come tomorrow!

Today I’m taking off to Nantucket for the remainder of the week. The trip is actually for work, but I have to say, I’ve been sent worse places. Having never been to Nantucket, I can’t wait to take in the charming island I’ve heard so many wonderful things about. I’m hoping the quick trip will include some tasty seafood, a shoreline bike ride and some time to rest my feet in the sand and be reflective of all of my blessings. It’s amazing how one’s whole life is put in perspective once tragedy strikes. Sending all my love and lots of prayers to one very special friend…xo, m.

While you got a peek at my weekend in Sag Harbor over Memorial Day weekend earlier this week, I wanted to share additional snaps I took over my days spent in this charming seaside town. Everything had such character, such style and such delight in it and I could not have loved it more. Plus, I loved playing with the new Samsung SH100 camera that has wi-fi capabilities and let me post photos I took all weekend to Facebook, how cool is that? Twas part of their awesome Coast to Coast Photo Post program in which I participated! You’ll be able to see some of my shots in their Facebook app soon…

As previously mentioned, this past weekend was spent in the Hamptons with girlfriends for a much needed escape from the city and in celebration of Memorial Day. The days were spent by the pool, sipping Skinny Girl margaritas (they are so yummy!) and mimosas, soaking up the sunshine and plenty of storytelling. The nights were filled with yummy seafood, ice cream, cocktails, darts and dancing. Sag Harbor is a darling town where I wish I could spend all my summer weekends.
