traveling alternatives

If you’re like me, you’re sort of devestated that summer is coming to a close. I’ve had one of the best summers ever (despite the complete awareness that I was not “let loose” for three straight months like it used to be back in the days of the, what seems distant, life as a student.

So, of course, I’ve found myself willing another trip or quick getaway. Unfortunatly, everything seems to be standing in our way of recent- gas prices, airfare prices, scheduling conflicts. Ick!

But, for those of you WITs that can scrape up the money to plan a little adventure, check out MSNBC’s article on a new study about how staying in condos or doing timeshares can help you budget. Sites like Vacation Rentals By Owner, Zonder.com and HomeAway all can help you find solid choices in where ever your heart has chosen as your destination. Granted, you’ll of course want to make sure you can see plenty of photos and get a good read on location so that it’s up to a WITs standards, but nowadays that’s easier than ever to do.

So next steps:
1. Grab your best girlfriends and put some destinations in a hat
2. Close your eyes and pick out a spot
3. Start planning and don’t forget that hotels aren’t your only option!

w&w Guide to: Summer Essentials

w&w Guide to: Summer Essentials

There are certain things in life that just scream summer. They make your heart flutter a little when you think about them in the dead cold of winter and they make up the moments that you savor about the three months of the glorious season that is summer.

I have quite a few things that I think are necessary in a WIT’s summer…summer essentials in my mind…so I thought I’d share a few.

1. The beach.
No matter your locale or destinations for the summer months- you must find a way to make it to the beach. It’s an absolute necessity and this summer I was lucky enough to make it to the beaches in hawaii AND tahoe!

2. Summer fruits.
Whenever possible (salad with stone fruit, berries and cream, juicy, sweet pluots)!

3. Iced cold cocktails.
Margers (with grand marnier floaters of course!), vodka lemonades, sangria- you name it. but they must be over ice and they must be enjoyed in the sunshine.

4. Weekend getaways.
No matter your hometown, you can always count on finding a destination for a quick trip. The Bay Area (god bless it) offers wine country, Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe and little towns like Sausalito. Take advantage of the bed and breakfasts, shops and company wherever you land.

5. Spa day.

Relaxing during summer is a must. I find a Saturday to devote to do this and my favorite way is through a spa day. Grab your girlfriends and head for manis & pedis or book yourself a long and luxurious massage.

6. Frozen Yogurt.
As much as you can possibly get! It never tastes as good in the Fall or Winter and with summer fruit atop your flavor choice can be just heavenly!

7. Shopping!
But of course. Summer is the perfect time for finding wedges, skirts, darling dresses and cute, but cool tops. Head to the boutiques in your city as they’ll offer more unique lines and can often have great summer sales you can take advantage of!

Now share with us WITs some of your own summer essentials! What elements make up your perfect summer?

Be Bronzed…Grab Maui Babe

Be Bronzed…Grab Maui Babe

I just returned back from vacation in Hawaii and let me tell you– I am already experiencing extreme withdrawals. I want to be taken back to the sun, the surf, the sand, the cocktails and the blissful R&R experienced while on vacay…

But alas, while I do not know the next time I will be in Hawaii, I do know that I brought back a piece of the islands with me in the form of my 12 oz bottle of Maui Babe. Available only in Hawaii (but able to be purchased online now as well), Maui Babe accelerates the sun triggered tanning processes in your skin, eliminating long torturous hours cultivating your tan.

It’s safe for all skin types — even the fairest and most sensitive (yes us Irish gals have to put SPF on beforehand, but seriously- this stuff even works on those of us who are fair skined and freckled!)

Maui Babe is a suntanning lotion made from an old secret family formula, mixed from natural Hawaiian ingredients, including aloe and soothing moisturizers.

My girlfriends and I swear by this stuff! So as we continue into our summers- find a way to get your hands on a bottle of Maui Babe because we all know- a WITs just got to have her bronzed and golden skin all year round! (And just say NO to tanning beds too!)
