NYFW is approaching and while I’m taking it easier this season, I’m going to soak up a few shows here and there and see some of my favorite people. While I’m doing my best to abstain from shopping due to an overwhelming amount of travel this year, I’ve been lusting after some Equipment shirts with the desire to add another to my wardrobe.

But before I hit “Purchase,” I thought I’d have you, favorite readers, weigh in on which one to buy! Which one of the above do you think I should snag?

Happy Friday, all! Thanks so much for stopping by – my readers make my day always To kick start the weekend I thought I would share a few snaps from the past few weeks. I’ve hit the ground running ever since returning from the holidays and New York Fashion Week begins in less than 2 weeks…I’ll be taking this weekend easy with a few plans with friends here and there and plenty of time to run errands, get my apartment in order and prepare for my mom’s visit in one week’s time…can’t wait!

One of my new year’s “do it better” (I don’t like to do resolutions per se), was to maximize what’s in my closet. Make use of that shirt I haven’t worn in forever, layer different pieces in a better manner, break out those dresses I haven’t styled in a while…you get the point.

Anyways, I’ve been relying on my Pinterest “Just My Style” board to bring some of these aims to life. All it takes is a quick glance at some of those outfit inspirations and I’ve got a new idea for that plain white button down that hasn’t seen the light of day in a long time. Therefore, I thought I’d share some favorites.

These photos have been hiding on my hard drive and I just re-surfaced them. This is what I wore on Christmas Day. A touch of holiday spirit through a sparkly Gryphon skirt and rather simple in all other manners. It was unseasonably warm at home in Chicago for this time of year but I have to tell you, I kind of loved it, even though I missed having a white Christmas. I’ve since worn this skirt a few more times and this Kenneth Jay Lane necklace has become a staple in my go-to jewelry each day.

I’m a denim girl. I wear jeans most days and you can usually find me pairing skinny jeans with a blouse & heels at night and with boots & a sweater at work. Henceforth (yes, henceforth), I was excited to try a pair from the new James Jeans Couture Collection. They conform to your body while being super stretchy and also come in a really dark wash which I loved. James Jeans makes awesome jeans, period (another pair I love are here). I loved pairing the Couture Collection ones with layers in Georgetown while in DC this past weekend.

currently craving: colored denim

A little while back I blogged about colored denim, but recently have been seeing more soft and subdued shades and therefore was inspired to do so again. Additionally, Helena has inspired me to rock some more colorful denim- I don’t think there’s a better time to do so then in the midst of winter, agreed?!Currently craving the above jeans in mint & kelly green.

As you may have read, I spent the weekend in Washington DC with Taylor. It was the perfect few days spent outside of New York City and wonderful to spend time with some family (before my brother moves to South Africa in a few weeks!) I have more photos to share, but here’s what I wore the majority of the weekend- jeans, a cozy sweater and this great Brahmin bag that fits SO much in it. I didn’t have a proper satchel, but this Brahmin bag fits the bill now and is great for travel.

long weekend

Even though we’re just coming out of the holidays, I could not be happier that I’m off on Monday and will be enjoying a long weekend. Which is also why Taylor and I are heading to Washington DC this weekend. We’ll visit some of my family, stay in Georgetown, visit the Smithsonian, brunch and enjoy our nation’s pretty, pretty capitol.

Have any recommendations for us two ladies as we hit the town?! Would love to hear them!

If you’ve read this blog for a while, you know I’m not a huge flats girl, but every once in a while, I do need to switch up my boots & heels routine and I think these Ferragamo Varina Bow flats are just the trick to doing so. While at $400 they are not impulse-buying worthy, I think they are a worthy investment (after all, these were for me, too and they have proved one very good decision.) They are so classic that I love seeing them on women of all ages in fact. Plus, I feel like they are a bit of a New York City staple among women.

gallery walls

My new apartment is finally starting to come together. Furniture has been built and things stored so my roommate and I are starting to get to the point of thinking about decorating. One thing we’re sure we’d like to do is build a gallery wall above our couch as a focal point. I recived this really amazing piece of art for Christmas that showcases old postcards of New York from the 1940s that my grandma had bought back then and we’re going to use it as the center piece but we must now find additional prints, images, mirrors and accents to help build the wall.

I, of course, turned to Pinterest for some inspiration. I also may follow these guidelines.
