Summer Trend to Try: The One Piece Swimsuit {guest post}

one piece

Let me first say what a pleasure it is to be guest-blogging over here at WIT & Whimsy. Like a girl in a committed long-term relationship, I’m lovingly devoted to my own blog, but I couldn’t help but wonder what life might be like in the stylish pages of w&w.

Coincidentally, I feel the same way about swimsuits for this summer season. I am quite committed to my bikini. I love the tan lines and I love mixing and matching different suits. However, the one piece is having a serious moment this year, and I can’t help but take notice! In every pattern and style, from retro cuts to wild cut-outs, I’ve seen some seriously appealing suits. There’s something about the old Hollywood glamor and suggestive modesty of a well-fitted one piece that’s both chic and sexy. In fact, I recently gave in and purchased a little black number with a plunging neckline from Old Navy that makes me pine for a striped umbrella and some cat eye glasses on the beach of St. Tropez. No matter your how much you dare to bare when you’re lounging poolside or frolicking through ocean waves, I can assure you there’s a single-serving swimsuit out there just dying to steal you away from your trusty two piece.

10 rules of summer {guest post}

1. A bright color goes a long way towards making you look summery and terrific.

2. Skip foundation on a hot day in favor of some pressed powder and a little bronzer!

3.  Even cheap ice cream tastes great by the pool in the sun. Or make your own.

4.  Take the weather as an opportunity to get outside and walk somewhere!  No reason to go to the gym when it’s beautiful outside.

5.  Take a page from Kate Middleton’s book and pick up an amazing summer hat!

6. Most fruits and veggies are incredible during the summer — look for in season tomatoes, lettuces, fresh herbs, peaches and berries!

7.  Food tastes better outside — fire up the grill or find a great restaurant with outdoor tables, and watch the sun set!

8.  The best summer styles are incredibly wearable — the perfect soft t-shirts, denim cutoffs, maxi dresses, and wedge sandals!

9.  Even if you can’t get to the beach, you can still get beach waves!  Clampless curling irons are a miracle product — I’m obsessed with mine! Try this look.

10.  Don’t forget sunscreen!

summer layers {guest post}

As a San Franciscan who is used to temperamental summer weather, I have learned that layers are a necessity! Summer layering can be especially difficult because you want to look like you’re dressed for the right season, not the dead of winter. I like to pair my summer wear (shorts, dresses and rompers) with a military vest, semi-sheer blouse, and/or leather jacket for a seasonally appropriate look with added warmth! Swap your basic cardi in favor of a chambray top to wear over a striped tee, and always carry a patterned scarf in your bag because you never know when those temps will drop and the sun will disappear.

Equipment blouse, J.Crew vest, Textile Elizabeth & James shorts, Alexander McQueen scarf

The Row blouse, Topshop romper, Topshop leather jacket
