Favorites from Cynthia Steffe Spring 2011

Cynthia Steffe is a favorite brand of mine (Andrea and I write about the line a lot) and designer Shaun Kearny has done amazing things for the line since taking over the reigns.

The Spring 2011 show last month that I attended was upbeat, colorful and classic Cynthia Steffe meaning pieces were for the modern city girl who wants to throw something on and look instantly put together.

Certain pieces I definitely didn’t love, mostly because I knew the price point wouldn’t make them worthwhile buys, but overall it was a memorable collection.

Likes:

Bowed leather belts

Color-blocking

Butterscottch leather

Vibrant color palette

Cut out details – especially on the shoulders

Dislikes:

Drawstrings

Cap Sleeves

Athletic cuts

Favorite piece that came down the runway? This tiered, butterscotch leather skirt

Statement dress for sure.

Loving all the color in this look and one great example of the shoulder cut-out details I was talking about.

Shaun’s belts for this collection were beyond. This is a great example.

Love this. Easy, Breezy.

My second favorite piece from the collection.

I think I’d love this dress even more in the Fall. I’d pair it with boots and a sleek leather bomber jacket.

This dress looks like heaven to wear. Yummy to say the least.

Trends to watch: Spring 2011

While we get into Fall and I begin to secretly await the days where I can wrap myself in thick and cozy Theory sweaters and fun, inexpensive pieces recently picked up at H&M, I’m still already beginning to craft styles in my head for Spring.

At Fashion Week, I have to admit my favorite part is seeing certain trends come to the surface. Here’s what I saw for Spring 2011…get excited! (And see all my NYFW Spring 2011 posts here!)

Fashion Week Spring 2011: Nanette Lepore

Had it not existed before, Nanette Lepore would have invented the word “girly.”

Her show last week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was one of my absolute favorites because the colors were bold and bright, the beading was A-MAZING, the details like button-downed backs, feminine pleating were delicate, unexpected elements like bandeau tops (!) and cut out sides and then there was…the sequins. To be unoriginal and quote Rachel Zoe, I DIE over this collection.

Oh and can we just talk about how the whole show was set to a live band? John Forte gave a smooth & sultry performance that set the stage for the models who walked the runway with matte lips and lightly smoked eyes. Perfect for carrying you from the day into the night and it was paired beautifully with the tangerines, plums, metallics and cool whites.

Nanette Lepore knocked it out of the park for sure. I was just wishing Andrea was sitting next to me for it because practically every look I saw come down the runway, I thought “Andrea. Andrea. Andrea.”

Sadly, her mom passed away a short few weeks prior to the show, but her program included a very sweet photo of her mom and a dedication, “Mom, you will forever inspire me.”

This look is a but hippy-esque, but it’s overly girly meaning when paired with a pair of booties and a dressed down denim jacket, I would absolutely rock it.

A maxi dress done up and done right.

A. I love this bold lip and B. How cute can a jumper be?

One of many bandeaus that Nanette showed.

Hi, Andrea. This preppy and punchy tangerine frock was made for you!

One of my favorite looks from the show. It’s effortlessly cool and chic and perfect for work meets happy hour.

This coral dress made me think of Palm Springs. Who is with me?

Flowy and fabulous.

The sides on this “apron dress” rocked it. I’m not digging the metallic heels shown here, however.

LOVE.IT.

I want this apron skirt so much. Like, now.

This net dress is super cute. I see it with really colorful accessories in coral or turquoise.

This sand beaded jacket was a favorite piece for me.

DIE over this skirt. DIE.

Perfection.

Gorgeous. Also coveting these shoes.

And last but not least, here’s a sampling of the shots I snapped from my seat:

Big fan of the stripes with this crisp, white jumper.

Here’s the sides on the apron dress I mentioned above. Tres chic.

I wouldn’t ever wear these shorts, but I do like the look overall.

Love. Need this top. It’s on my wish list!

Prettttttttty.

Nanette also showed several pieces of swimwear that recalled the look of the 70s with bra tops and bottoms that were high waisted boy shorts.

Final walk.

Final walk.

Final walk.

Nanette and her darling daughter. Too cute!
