w&w gift guide 2010: 06: Belle’s Picks

If you’re a WIT & Whimsy regular reader you know that I travel. A LOT. Outfit posts in the last month alone have recently shown my state-hopping in Illinois, New York and Texas. So when I asked the super stylish, oh-so-witty and truly wonderful Belle of Capitol Hill Style to select her picks for a gift guide all her own to be showcased here on WIT & Whimsy, I loved that it was travel related. But let’s be real, what don’t we love of Capitol Hill Style’s? Seriously, one of the best blogs ever.

So let’s get to it (and don’t forget to check out all the 2010 Gift Guides to finish out that wonderful shopping list of yours for all your loved ones!)

  1. Nordstrom ‘Eyelash’ Cashmere wrap, $95
  2. Rebecca Minkoff Passport Case, $98
  3. Louis Vuitton City Guides, $34
  4. Flip Video HD, $149.99
  5. Bliss Lemon & Sage Spa Set, $25
  6. Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan ‘Air Bacara’ Flat, $138
  7. Ray Ban Wayfarers, $145 (comme moi!)

“Despite living in Washington, D.C. within close proximity to two international airports, I’ve never traveled out of the country.  In fact, I’ve never even been outside of the lower 48 states.  But next year, that’s all going to change.  I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but in 2011, I am going somewhere awesome.

And this gift guide is full of items that I’m going to need for my first overseas trip. If any of you experienced travelers have tips and tricks that you’d love to share with this Carmen San Diego gumshoe (hello, children of the 90s, I loved that game too!), feel free to leave them in the comments.  Happy Holidays and Godspeed.” – Belle

Mi(a) Amore

CLARISONIC® 'Berry Mia' Set (Nordstrom Exclusive)

I’ve heard about the Clarisonic for a while now, but it wasn’t until I put a tweet out into the oh-so-full-of-opinions-and-feedback twittersphere that I realized I was missing out on the beauty that is the Clarisonic. They were kind enough to send one of their too-cute for words Mia sets (this one in particular is sold as an exclusive kit at Nordstrom for $149) my way to try out and I now am a full-time member of the fan club. In short, the Clarisonic is A-mazing.

Clarisonic uses its fancy patented sonic frequency to deliver more than 300 movements per second to your skin that gently (and I mean gently- it’s so soft and smooth!) and effectively loosen dirt and oil to cleanse your pores. According to Clarisonic, in just 60 seconds a day, the micro-massage action cleans more than twice as effectively as manual cleansing. Love the sound of this, right!?

Now you and I both always hear companies that make claims, but aren’t able to deliver, but I’m happy to report that Clarisonic is not one of them. After using the Mia system for over two weeks now, I can attest that it does in fact live up to all the hype. It will indeed deliver the following:

  • Remove 6x more makeup than manual cleansing
  • Leave your skin feeling and looking smoother
  • Cleanse so well that products absorb better
  • Be gentle enough for twice daily use
  • Help reduce oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes
  • Help reduce the appearance of visible pores

Legitimately, Andrea and I have been using the Mia every day now (the cute Nordstrom kit comes with two heads, how convenient for roomies like us) and are obsessed. Conversations in our bathroom have turned into, “seriously, this is incredible” and “I love, love, love this thing!” Not to mention, their Gentle Hydro Cleanser smells and feels like a dream. You can also use it in the shower. Seriously this little guy is nothing short of amazing.

The Clarisonic is indeed our mi amore. As if you couldn’t already tell…

p.s – For more Clarisonic be sure to check out their newly launched blog, Sonic Chatter. And for a great little step by step tutorial on cleansing with the Mia, check out one of our bff’s, Inspired Shannon’s, guide.

The Winter Trends You Should be Wearing (if you're not already)

The Winter Trends You Should be Wearing (if you're not already)

As the weather has shown us over the past couple of weeks, winter is not going anywhere any time soon. Downside? Cold, snowy conditions and travel plans made into nightmares. Upside? There is still plenty of time to get in on the best winter trends of this season and have plenty of time to wear them!

WIT & Whimsy editors pulled their favorite trends and specific designs within each trend category to help you get started where you may not have already done so yourself! And if you act quickly, you can grab some pretty stellar sale prices from many stores and online retailers.

Now get to it snow bunnies!

Lace Tights:

Let’s be honest. If you haven’t taken notice of all the legs of women rocking crazy fabulous tights and leggings this Fall and Winter, you’re not getting out enough! Read more about the trend overall and find some of the most fun options here. For the look we’re loving right now, it’s all about lacy, floral tights. Our favs are showcased here:

TopShop Regal Net Tights, $16

Givenchy August Floral Lace Tights from Bare Necessities, $16

LnA Lace Thigh High Leggings, $110

Sequins / Shimmer:

We previously posted on some of our favorite pieces to be sporting when glamming up your outfits this season with sequins galore and tons of shiny and shimmery pieces that are as eye-catching as they are fun. There are so many we love so we thought we’d share our latest editor obsessions seen here:

Cynthia Steffe Georgina Sequin Skirt, $195

Find way more a-mazing minis in a previous post found here including a Haute Hippie sequin one to die for!)

BB Dakota Sequin Jacket, $84

This jacket screams Rachel Zoe and we think it’s perfect for throwing on over a simple top to take an outfit from day to night in an instant. Plus this fun one from BB Dakota retails at Piperlime.com for a reasonable $84.

Lauren Merkin Eve Clutch in Cream Gold Urchin Linen, $90 (sale)

We have the Lauren Merkin Eve clutch as seen here and still L-O-V-E it! You need one of these oh-so-darling clutches in your wardrobe STAT.

Over the knee boots:

If you’re like us, you feel as though one can never have enough stock in your closet when it comes to shoes. That’s why we have trouble packing to go anywhere because there are so many options!! This season, given all the wintery weather, we’ve been relying on our boots to get us through on a daily basis. Since each style can vary so much, we figure there is always room for one more, right? We don’t have a over-the-knee style yet, but see it in our future (and by future we mean, asap)!

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Jilliee boots, $130-$160

These are classy and scream sophistication. You’ll have these boots forever (or until you wear them out because you love them that much!) and are great for pairing with skirts and dresses along with tucking your jeans into them for a more casual look.

Steven by Steve Madden Iden boot, $159

We have a similar Steven by Steve Madden boot and can attest to the fact that you will ADORE these boots and want to wear them all the time as they are just so comfortable. The Iden style adds about two inches onto the height which we think could really amp up some outfits.

Corso Como Milan boots, $209-$259

These boots are so simple, yet chic that we see miles after miles being walked in and traipsed across in for travels and even just commutes. The color is comfortable and relaxed and make this boot perfect for everyday wear or just your weekend go-to pair of boots.

Studded bracelets:

A few years ago, when studs were popping up everywhere, we developed a complete aversion to them. Now they’re back, and thankfully this time with more subtly, and we’re loving them as a part of arm candy. Check out these gorgeous bracelets all embellished with studs and really reasonable prices.

CCSkye Izzie Plate Bracelet, $140

Linea Pelle Domes Stud Bracelets, 2 for $45

House of Harlow 1960 Gladiator Cuff, $55
