Favorites looks Fashion Week Spring 2011: Day One

If there were no other days in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I’d report that right now Spring 2011 is going to be all about lightweight, neutrals and frankly, I can’t complain. I just arrived in New York this evening so while I wasn’t able to see any of these looks in person, here are my favorites of what’s graced the catwalks thus far.

To see the shows I’ll be attending, check out my line up here.

Christian Siriano

Leave it to the half-pint, uber talented Christian Siriano to deliver effortless dresses and his collection today for Spring 2011 did just that. This is one of my favorite looks from the show, but I kind of loved pretty much every one. I also love that he always goes above and beyond, delivering so many looks as Andrea and I were lucky enough to see last February.

Vena Cava

I’m liking the all-white look here with a punch of a red shoe that Vena Cava showcased this afternoon. It may in fact have me breaking out the red pumps I’ve had for five years now, but rarely see the light of day. The eye makeup, however, just does not sit well with me for this look. Right now I’m liking her collection for Bloomingdale’s Aqua brand more than what’s ahead for Spring 2011.

Valerie Mayen

While her color palette was all over the map when it came to her collection, spunky Valerie from the current season of Project Runway had some real hits with her colorful dresses, but I like this little number the best because it just seems so wearable. The cardigan is really versatile as well. Sign me up for the whole look, please!

Christopher Collins

There’s no way I could pull this dress off with my skin tone, but I love the idea. I’ve also been a Christopher Collins advocate from the beginning of this season of Project Runway given that he’s from San Francisco!

Casanova

Well, it’s certainly not “grandmother” for which he became practically known for on PR, but it also totally says Haute Hippie Fall 2010 to me. Nevertheless, I LOVE this dress.

Michael Costello

He may have gotten a bad wrap on the show, but Michael C.’s collection blew me away when I saw photos today. It was cohesive, featured beautiful colors and lots of textural interest and best of all was pure fun.

The Wait is Over: Project Runway Season 8!

As of next week, summer TV just got a whole lot better. The show that makes me wish I had listened to my Mom when she wanted to teach me how to sew will be consuming my Thursday nights. Mark your calendar for July 29 at 9 p.m.

Check out the trailer below courtesy of Lifetime. Loves it.

Oh and P.S. I can’t help but root for Christopher Collins the SF based contestant. Check out more about him on Examiner.com.

The Latest from Nina Garcia!

Nina Garcia, fashion phenom and best-selling author, is at it again with her latest “fashion bible,” The Style Strategy! We kind of love Nina on Project Runway (premiering this Thursday!!) and also read her book The One Hundred and looooved it.

Barnes & Noble Tagged! series has hosted an episode with Nina to chat with the multi-tasking fashion maven. Check out the video below to hear how Nina’s new book will help readers shop smart, stay chic and make their style last in the current economic conditions. We saw a sneak peek in this month’s Marie Claire and we know we’ll be getting our hands on a copy of The Style Strategy. Let’s face it, this fashionista knows what she’s talking about!
