Chicago, my kind of town

“Chicago, Chicago, I’ll show you around, I love it. Bet your bottom dollar you’ll lose the blues in Chicago, Chicago…” – Frank Sinatra

{gifted} Soft Joie blouse, BR jacket, 7 for All Mankind The Skinny leggings, Steve Madden boots, Old Navy scarf, Ray Ban aviators, Marc by Marc Jacobs Q bag and pendant, Michael Kors watch, Anthropologie bracelets (seen here)

The reason Joie became a staple in my wardrobe was for the casual chicness it breathes into ensembles with hardly any effort (like this simple red dress). Naturally, when they launched their line Soft Joie in the Spring of this year, I was eager to nab a few pieces due to my ridiculous inclination for easy and soft tops to throw on with jeans (read: lazy). Better known as, what I like to refer to as, Sophisticated Basics. Sounds way better, right?

Anyhow, one of my very best friends came to visit me in Chicago this weekend (more photos from the weekend to come, some of which are posted here) and we ate and drank and played for 48 hours of perfection. I just love Chicago. If you haven’t ever visited, you must. My whole time being home, I’ve felt nothing but gratitude for my upbringing here, my family and those friends I still hold close to my heart, despite the miles between us whilst I’m in California.

p.s. Nail color shown is Deborah Lippmann’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and it is officially my new favorite Fall Polish (just beating out Essie’s Material Girl). It’s the most perfectly scrumptious aubergine color you will ever find. Ob-sessed.

Playground

The Loft faux fur vest, gifted Vince twisted seams sweater, c/o Kyler by Joy O necklace, James Jeans, Steve Madden oxfords (I caved), J.Crew bangles, Ray Ban aviators, Michael Kors watch

Being at home always reminds me of such fun memories of growing up and I love that no matter how much my life changes, traditions at home and with my family remain the same. Since being home for Thanksgiving this week, I’ve loved seeing old friends, playing in the kitchen and baking with my mom, scheming gift-giving with my dad, catching up with my siblings and heading out to the playground where I used to spend hours talking with girlfriends, sneaking out time to time (oh childhood…) and have made so many precious memories over the years with friends.

But man, it’s cold here! My only solace? Finally being able to wear this faux fur vest I got several weeks back when it was still too warm in San Francisco to wear without it seeming just plain silly.  It’s fun to be all cozy though, especially in this Vince sweater that I’ve been living in practically.

p.s. Kyler by Joy O, the line of which the necklace I’m wearing is a part, is a crazy beautiful jewelry collection and I had the pleasure of meeting Joy at the Polyvore event last week. She filled people’s goodie bags with her beautiful pieces and I’m in love with the necklace I received. You must check out her sustainable jewelry- the stuff rocks.

Lighting Strikes

Lighting Strikes

At last night’s SF style & beauty blogger meetup, I was chatting with the gals of Shop It To Me about photography and it inspired me to mix it up a bit and do some shots in the evening (and by evening I mean like 11:30 p.m. because I’m crazy). I wanted to play with lighting and shadows and had probably too much fun messing with my camera settings. I used to be super into my SLR camera and being in a darkroom, but sadly those days were years back. Perhaps I need to get back into it soon. We shall see!

These aren’t the best shots, but it was fun to have my stress-induced insomnia be put to work!

P.S. – Have you entered the Beso giveaway? You could win $100 to spend on anything you want!!! I want to enter, but can’t so do it for me, ok?! :)

Joie blouse (similar style here), True Religion skinny jeans (also seen here), Steve Madden Trinite pumps (buy here), Michael Kors watch, David Yurman Three Pearl ring
