Editors’ Picks: Jean Paul Gaultier for Target

March 7, 2010

Ah, yet another high-end designer has partnered with Target to create pieces that mimic their design aesthetic on the runway, but are paired with Target’s prices to avoid sticker shock. The newest designer for Target is famed Frenchman Jean Paul Gaultier. As with previous guest designers like Vera Wang and Alice Temperely, the looks are a bit off the mark (in our opinion) and while some work for us, they are so trendy that they often aren’t worth the price tag.

The looks are said to be rebellious, feisty and provocative however we’re seeing decent, slightly strange and somewhat fun. While we’re not digging the entire line, we do think those pieces shown below are standouts from the rest of their company.

Have you check out the line in stores yet? If so, we want to hear what you think!

Pleated mint-ash green dress, $59.99

Twist Shoulder Drape Top, $22.99

Striped Trench Coat, $59.99

I was excited to see some of these pieces in person, but the Target I went to only had about 1/4 of the pieces, and I hated almost everything in person. Unfortunate let down.

The concept is good but if big name designers keep collaborating with stores like Target or H&M, the end result is going to look like much of the same. Not really impressed!
