So many of my #ParisPerfected clients were set to visit in March, April & May. As their trips were cancelled and postponed and my own plans to return to my beloved France were also put on pause, I got to thinking about virtual escapes and the use of our imagination, technology and creativity to transport ourselves to the places we love and hold dearly. Thus was born: The Francophile’s guide to staying indoors. Today on wit & whimsy I’ve rounded up all the ways you can transport yourself to France right now: my favorite movies set in France, my favorite books set in France, French dishes and cocktails to try your hand at, Instagram accounts to follow, ways to virtually visit iconic spots like @museeorsay and @chateauversailles and so much more. Today was hard. I cried for the first time since all of this started. It was like the floodgates opened and then I couldn’t stopped till I started a meditation session to try and bring myself back to a state of calm. It was a perfect storm of a few things and then I read a moving piece on @harvard_business_review that said “We’re feeling a number of different griefs. We feel the world has changed, and it has. We know this is temporary, but it doesn’t feel that way, and we realize things will be different...Things will change and this is the point at which they changed. The loss of normalcy; the fear of economic toll; the loss of connection. This is hitting us and we’re grieving. Collectively. We are not used to this kind of collective grief in the air.” It said so eloquently what I’d attribute my anxiety to of late. The loss of control, the uncertainty, the financial losses, the loss of normalcy, the loneliness, the dampening motivation, the empathy for those who are sick, those who have died and those working on the front lines...it’s all a lot and it’s all heavy. I’ll link the full article on my Stories but do grab tissues before you begin 😉 Tomorrow is a new day though and I’m going to focus on that for now ✔️

I’m trying to spend a portion of each day doing

I’m trying to spend a portion of each day doing something that brings me joy and lately it’s been reading feel-good books. I started @gabbybernstein’s book Super Attractor last year but fell off of it but now that I’m back reading it I’m realizing how so many of the lessons within are relevant to right now.

For example: “The more good-feeling emotions you bring to your current circumstances, the faster things begin to work out the way you want and the faster you feel better.” It’s challenging to not be in charge of our own future, it’s challenging to be cooped up - no matter your circumstances, it’s challenging to not be able to make plans or see friends and family. But each day I’m working to reframe my thoughts onto the good that’s coming out of this. Like thinking of all the people who chose jobs of service in healthcare and are risking their lives to take care of strangers who need them. Like those who are showing up to work as essential workers to keep us fed and protected and well. Like the freedom we will feel when we are no longer under the constraints of our own four walls. Like the way I hope we all treat one another with more kindness and understanding regarding our collective being on this planet... Staying positive during all this is a mental exercise that’s requiring a lot of energy every day. BUT WE’VE GOT THIS. And the people on the front lines - they need our good energy - this I know.

This weekend @agirlastyle sent me this photo from when we were in Paris in October 2018 and it made my heart ache for sunny days and walks alongside friends. I will say though that in the past two weeks I’ve talked to all my friends more than ever and for that I’m grateful. I’ve had long catch up calls with friends I’ve not caught up with in months and many FaceTime and Hangout chats with my close friends both in NYC and spread across the country. It’s one silver linings amidst all this. I can’t recommend enough that you download apps like Marco Polo and House Party and set up Zoom and Google Hangouts. Reach out during this time - it’s worth it. And as I keep saying, we’re all apart yet together in this 💛 #witwhimsyparis #friendship #paris

Things making me smile right now: - The book I’m reading (Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams)
- Walks in the sun
- All my Marco Polo videos with friends and family (been using this app for nearly two years but it’s particularly a lifesaver RN)
- So many heartfelt conversations and comments in my DMs
- Father of the Bride Parts 1 and 2
- Warm baked goods - Finding new recipes to try
- Running into neighbors around the ‘hood (and having catch up conversations at least 6ft away)
- The gratitude for a home I really love
- Perfecting my at home dirty martini
- The spring blooms beginning to blossom
- All. Of. The. FaceTime. - The thought of seeing the light at the end of this tunnel we’re all living in

Earlier this week a friend sent me a bouquet of flowers and last night I looked at this rose and saw how it had bloomed so beautifully. I instantly recognized it as a sign - a sign that we can all grow even when cooped up indoors. The past two weeks have me realizing I will no longer take for granted so many things - side by side walks with friends, trips to Paris, trips anywhere for that matter, visits from friends and family, the ability to make plans, group dinners, spontaneous drinks dates, casual hang outs with friends over burgers and fries, going to church, shaking new acquaintances’ hands, giving hugs, group workout classes...the list is endless. But from this experience and this uncertainty we are all bound to grow and for that I’m choosing to be grateful because I now know how much in my life I should never take for granted again 💕
