One of my very favorite spots we visited while in Provence was the hilltop town Gordes. We actually went twice – once right as we arrived (our Airbnb was about 30 minutes away) and then we spent a relaxing last day there as well.

A Divine Day in Gordes, Provence

The lovely team at Sisley Paris were kind enough to have us to La Bastide de Gordes to experience the Sisley Spa on-property. It was, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever experienced.

La Bastide de Gordes is situated within the town in what used to be a castle, nestled on the rocky slopes of Gordes.

We arrived to La Bastide mid-morning and wandered the property taking in all of its beautiful elements including the pool, the terraces, the garden, the library and more.

We enjoyed a cocktail and coffee on this terrace – one of many the hotel has that offers sweeping views of the Provence hillsides.

Before our spa treatments we indulged in lunch at the hotel’s L’Orangerie and I couldn’t have loved it more. It’s pricey but such a lovely experience. I had burrata with heirloom tomatoes and an amazing Grand Marnier souffle with vanilla bourbon ice cream. A favorite feature? The butter that arrived in its very own sterling silver cloche! It may have been some of the best bread and butter I’ve ever had.

The Sisley Spa was utterly luxurious and so peaceful.

Upon arrival, it feels as though you are entering a monastery of serenity. The treatment rooms are large and welcoming and each even come with a private terrace for you to enjoy your service outdoors if you’d like.  The spa offers different face and body treatments, massages from around the world as well as beauty treatments, all featuring the gorgeous Sisley Paris products. It also boasts an indoor heated pool and private terrace for spa guests where we laid out in the sun and read following our blissful massages. A hammam, steam room and sensorial showers are all also available alongside endless water, tea and light snacks. It was truly heaven on earth.

I truly cannot say enough good things about La Bastide de Gordes and one day hope to return and stay on-property for several days. It’s a little slice of heaven and well worth a stop if you want to treat yourself while on vacation.

A few miles down the road from Gordes is the famed Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque.

It was closed for renovation but still beautiful to see. Built in 1148 the structure is rather breathtaking. And one day I hope to see inside and return when all the lavender fields are in bloom!

As you head North to the Abbaye, don’t miss the popular viewpoint of Gordes. Can you believe these views?!

Getting into the town of Gordes from the Eastern side is a bit tricky due to small, winding roads up to the top. And you’ll want to pray to the parking gods that you find a spot. But, once you begin to explore, it is well worth it. There are loads of charming, cobblestone streets, small eateries and little shops to see. Many vantage points within the village offer additional views of the Luberon valley and if you’re looking to get some sustenance, I highly recommend the tucked away La Trinquette where we had burrata with truffles, stuffed zucchini blossoms and perfectly chilled rosé on our first day after a long day of travel.

In short, if you’re heading to Provence, do not miss Gordes!
