The April Beauty Edit

April 12, 2016

The April Beauty Edit I wit & whimsyWelcome to my new monthly beauty edit! As I mentioned in my reader survey results last week, I’ve decided to combat my falling off of regular beauty reviews by condensing them into a monthly beauty edit to keep me on track! If you’re a longtime reader you’ll remember my “Recent Beauty Favorites” that I used to do. This will be similar but condensed into a monthly delivery instead. With that, let’s begin…

Mario Badescu Facial Spray

I’ve only been using this for a few days but WOW! This $7 is the perfect facial pick me up. I’ve been battling dry skin of recent because of New York’s WHACKED weather so this hydrating mist has been used every morning since I got it. It smells like heaven (rosewater!) and is super gentle. You can use it to give your skin a mini pick me up if it is dehydrated or feeling tight and even use it to set your makeup. Gotta love a good multitasking product (at such a good price!)

The Pixi Lip Contour Liner

I didn’t used to use lip liners regularly but this one from Target changed my mind on their importance. This Contour Liner (I have it in clear) is put on before you apply your lip color and is not only waterproof but once you trace your lips with it, it actually helps to prevent any bleeding of your lipstick. I’ve noticed it’s added to the staying power of my lip colors in a major way.

Aveda Volumizing Tonic

My volumizing prayers for my hair have been answered! I’ve had trouble getting volume near my roots and after trying this out for the past month I am sold. I use it before every blow dry (just spray it into damp roots) and have found that it adds both body and shine (thanks to organic aloe and amino acids). On second day hair I combine it with this dry shampoo paste (I am so obsessed that it is getting it’s own post soon) and va-va-voom and voila! A magic combo.

It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara

9 times out of 10 I don’t like mascaras I try. I am a big fan of this Stila one but have decided it is a bit dramatic for daytime. This It Cosmetics one does such a nice job lengthening my lashes and giving them added volume that upon my first use of it not only did I notice the results myself but two friends at dinner that night asked if I had extensions in! I’d say that’s a good sign, no? Lashes become thick + defined but not overpowering or spider-like.

Covergirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette

Ever wanted the Urban Decay Naked Palette? Well here’s one that’s a fraction of the cost and that I’ve tried out a few nights now and really love! Eight shades of neutrals and endless combinations I’ve most loved using this for a more smoky, neutral eye at night and really like the mix of matte and shimmer shades within the palette. It’s also perfectly compact for travel.

Le Labo Eau De Parfum

This item is a splurge to say the least and was actually a Christmas present of sorts to myself. I have this tradition that I go to Saks Fifth Avenue every year during the holidays to see the magic created uptown and then pick up a little something at the store. I had heard so much about Le Labo and the experience of picking out your scent and watching it be made freshly by hand and the label be printed before your eyes (with a personalization on it even!) is just so special feeling that you want to wear the perfume every day. I went with Rose 31 for its spicy, woodsy notes but also balanced with a more feminine rose scent. It’s heaven.

So that’s this month’s edit! You’ll still see other beauty content here from time to time throughout the month but this once a month “column” of sorts will remain unsponsored, candid reviews of products I have used for (generally) weeks at a time and really loved. Hope you enjoy! (And, as always, if you have questions feel free to reach out on social media @meghandono or email me meghan[@]witwhimsy.com.

I’ve been wanting to pop into the Le Labo boutique downtown – it sounds like it would be quite an experience.
