Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo Review I wit & whimsy

In 2020 my stress brought on scalp issues I’d previously never experienced. I had dry patches with flaking and it wasn’t cute. So during a Sephora sale I decided to splurge on the Briogeo Scalp Revival
Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo because nothing else I had tried had fixed the issue.

2020’s stressors had caused my hair to thin and fall out more rapidly. What I learned was that maintaining a healthy scalp would make my hair healthier overall and helped to slow hair loss.

Last year I was looking for more clean brands to add to my beauty routine. Skincare and makeup had proved relatively easy but good, clean haircare had been more challenging. I had tried a few Briogeo products before but nothing had blown me away until I tried this charcoal shampoo.

What is the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo?

This is a really unique shampoo infused with Binchotan charcoal to draw impurities from the scalp and hair follicle to provide the foundation for optimal scalp health. It has a strange almost fluffy-like texture that you’ll scoop out which is of course different than your traditional shampoos.

What ingredients are in the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo?

Charcoal is known for its detoxifying properties so I had a feeling it may help my scalp issues. The charcoal is paired with vegetable derived micro-exfoliators work to remove dead skin cells and product build-up from your scalp making it more clean, balanced and healthy.

One of my favorite parts of this shampoo? The inclusion of cooling peppermint and spearmint oils that reduce scalp itchiness but also have this shampoo smelling amazing. It is the perfect zing every time I use it and I truly look forward to using it!

The formula also features Tea Tree Oil for its anti-septic and healing properties to reduce scalp irritation and inflammation and Coconut Oil to moisturize the scalp.

There are no sulfates, no silicones, no phthalates, no parabens, no DEA and has no artificial dye. It is 95% naturally-derived, vegan, cruelty-free and from a small, female black owned business.

Who is the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo For?

It’s for those with a dry, irritated, and flaky scalp and/or product buildup. Hair types it can be used on include straight, wavy, curly and coily. It can be used on color treated hair.

How much does the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo cost?

It costs $42 and is available at Sephora, Nordstrom and Dermstore. While pricey, a little goes a long way and my tub has lasted me over six months using it 3-5 times / week.

How to use the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo:

Step 1: Scoop out a small amount of the fluffy formula from the jar.
Step 2: Apply to wet hair- scrubbing your scalp vigorously as you apply. I like to use a scalp brush such as the Briogeo Scalp Revival Brush to really have the formula massaged in for ample penetration to the scalp. Using a scalp brush can also help stimulate hair follicles for better growth.
Step 3.: Once evenly distributed rinse throughly. You can rinse and repeat if you feel it is necessary.
Step 4: Follow with your favorite conditioner.

How long does it take for the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo to work?

Of course every scalp is different but I noticed an improvement after just one use and my scalp issues were largely resolved after a week of use every other day.  When I stopped using it for two weeks my scalp issues came back so I truly believe this stuff really, really works.

My Honest Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo Review

While this shampoo is expensive, it works. It lasts a long time and went to work in as little as one use for me. I absolutely love the fluffy texture and the peppermint-y smell. I’ve gotten several girlfriends hooked on it as well as we all found it helped our scalp issues- soothing itchiness, reducing irritation and getting rid of scale-y patches. I will be buying it again as soon as my first jar runs out.

The Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo ended up being one of my best purchases of 2020. Not only did it cure my scalp irritation and flakes, it left my hair and scalp feeling so much cleaner and so much healthier.

Have you tried the Briogeo Charcoal Shampoo before? If so I’d love to hear your thoughts!

And if your scalp needs even more TLC – don’t miss the rest of the Charcoal line from Briogeo including the Scalp Revival Charcoal and Peppermint Oil Cooling Jelly Conditioner and the Scalp Revival Charcoal and Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum. If you want to try all three products, Amazon has a great Scalp Revival value set of full size products for just $85.
