Designer Profile Q&A: Coye Nokes

May 10, 2010

As some of you may recall, we wrote a piece on the sassy and sophisticated shoes by Coye Nokes. They got a lot of our readers chatting either in comments or on Twitter and so we thought we’d share more about this up and coming designer!

Check out WIT & Whimsy’s interview with Ms. Nokes herself!

What was the hardest part about beginning your own line?

It was definitely a challenge to get started, but it has been a great experience! I think the hardest part has been juggling all the different demands. A typical day can include anything from dealing with the factory in Italy to speaking to a boutique buyer. No day is ever the same, but of course that also makes it exciting!

What is your favorite shoe you’ve designed so far?

The Joan sandal is my personal favorite from our Spring | Summer collection. It is sexy, flattering and versatile — we are having a hard time keeping it in stock!

What is your favorite way to accessorize?

In addition to a great pair of shoes…I love jewelry! I rarely leave the house without a great cuff or a chunky ring.

What is the one item in your closet you couldn’t live without?

My favorite little black dress – I seem to have a million of them and am constantly acquiring more, but there is one I could not live without!

What advice would you give to people looking to get into the fashion world?

I think the most important thing is passion. It is a competitive industry and passion is what is going to keep you going in spite of all the challenges!

What can we expect to see from your line this coming Fall?

Our Fall collection is inspired by 1950s glamour. The styles are beautiful and flattering – with an edge. We’re using a rich color palette of luxurious colors like peacock and bordeaux to compliment our lovely neutrals. The line includes a range of heights from flats to stunning 4 inch heels. We offer a variety of heights and styles for the girl on the go!

What stores currently carry your line? In addition to coyenokes.com, but of course.

We work with some great boutiques including Goody 2 Shoes in Jackson Hole WY, Mint in Houston and Moda Mario in Ft. Lauderdale. They have been great partners from the beginning and we really appreciate their support!

Love her! And can’t wait to see the Fall collection! Thanks, Coye!
