How I Got Rid of My Maskne
I am grateful that I don’t have to use active acne-fighting ingredients regularly but when wearing a protective face mask became a part of my everyday earlier this year, I began breaking out pretty immediately around my mouth and on my chin aka experiencing ‘maskne’. You can see the breakouts here.
Maskne is acne caused by the sweat + heat that forms under masks as you wear them. Wearing the mask causes pores to get clogged and irritated and therefore breakout forming maskne. When my maskne began, I knew I wanted to fight it and in order to do so I needed to introduce new products into my routine. With regular use of the following two Caudalie products that both feature acne-fighting ingredients, my acne cleared up.
Caudalie Vinopure Natural Salicylic Acid Pore Minimizing Serum.
This serum features the beloved acne fighting ingredient salicylic acid. This gel serum is super light and goes to work to purify pores, fight blemishes and the formula purges excess oil and blackheads. This was a new-to-me product by Caudalie and therefore I knew I could attribute the diminishing of breakouts to it.
Caudalie Vinopure Natural Salicylic Acid Pore Minimizing Toner.
I’ve used this toner off and on as needed for a few years but never regularly like I have the past month. Like the serum, this toner also harnesses 100 percent natural salicylic acid to control oil and diminish the appearance of future blackheads and breakouts. I love the refreshing feel of this toner and the soothing smell and properties (it has grape water and rosewater so it even works for sensitive skin.) Skin feels super clean after but not dry. I love this for maskne because it helps to un-trap the oil caught in pores while wearing mask. My skin is calm and soothed and better prepared to fight maskne with this toner.

I also try to minimize what’s on my face when I wear my mask prioritizing SPF first and foremost. And when I return home and take the mask off, I swipe my face with the Caudalie toner to cleanse bacteria that has built up during wear.

Hi Meghan! I wear surgical masks everyday for work and get the dreaded maskne as well. I also get acne on my hairline from wearing scrub caps. Myself and many of the other residents use triamcinolone and it works like a charm.

Just a heads up to be VERY careful with putting steroid creams on your face. As someone who suffers from Perioral Dermatitis which is a BEAR to get ride of (I’m going on two years now), I’ve read that steroid creams can actually CAUSE PD + I think that’s what actually happened to me (after applying something a derm gave my hubby — also a no-no).
So just a warning, from the other side…

Hi! I wanted to let you know I finally tried your recommended maskne solutions and I am kicking myself for not trying it sooner! I have struggled with acne for most of my life but about 5 years ago when I was 25 found a system that worked well for me….until I was wearing a mask every day. My acne came back with vengeance!!! Uncontrollable cystic acne ALL over my cheeks and chin! So embarrassing at age 31. My dermatologist called in prescriptions- nothing worked, my facalist recommend skinceuticals products- hundreds of dollars down the drain and nothing worked!! Out of frustration I though I might as well try the Caudalie sserum… within days I saw improvement, so I ordered the whole line! I have been adding in the purifying mask twice a week and I’m on my way to clearing my skin!! I feel like a giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I am so grateful for your recommendations! I truly thought there was no way the same products would solve my severe acne!
