Joggers were a type of pant I didn’t own for a very long time because I never really knew how to wear them to work with my personal style. Then the pandemic hit and said personal style became more casual and suddenly I owned several pairs of joggers that I found myself reaching for over and over again. 

How to Style Joggers

I don’t think all pairs of joggers are created equal and I do think there are proper ways to style them to be worn both at home and out in the world and today I’m sharing a few ways I like styling mine.

Making joggers look stylish and cool vs. frumpy and dumpy is all in how you style them. When shopping for joggers, I recommend you consider fit, fabric and waistband style. I like my joggers to be a bit more fitted through the leg and have chic tapering vs. being bulky and baggy. I also perfect softer fabrics vs. more utility fabrics.

With a Hoodie

For an extra sporty look, top your joggers with sneakers and an athletic inspired style hoodie as seen here. This pair of joggers is my favorite for every day, casual looks and working from home as well as errand running. They are buttery soft and crazy comfortable.

They are also great for travel. In the spring or summer I’d wear the above look for a travel outfit but maybe swap out the more athletic hoodie with a favorite cashmere hoodie and then I’d top it with an oversized denim jacket.

Crewneck Sweater in a Contrasting Color

Add some contrast to your look with a different color crewneck sweater and your favorite pair of joggers. If heading out, I’d top a sherpa jacket or an oversized denim jacket atop this look.

Monochromatic Matching Set

I love a matching set so much and think pairing a matching sweatshirt in the same color as your joggers is such a chic way to make comfortable look cool.

With a Cropped Cardigan

Hanging out at home and want a comfy but put together outfit that you could do school drop off or pickup in or Zoom calls? Top your joggers with a favorite tee and then pop on a cropped cardigan. Bonus points if it adds some cool texture to your look!

Funnel Neck Top

Balance out the joggers fitted ankle by trying a funnel neck top or a hoodie up top. Just make sure it hits at your hips and doesn’t go much lower. You want to draw the eye up – not to your midsection.

Cropped Tops

If cropped tops are in your rotation, try pairing one with joggers and an oversized duster cardigan. You could also do this style with a bra top or sports bra.

Jogger Outfit Ideas

I love that joggers are multi-purpose. Depending on the style they can be perfect for hanging out at home, more street style looks, running errands or even – when in the right fabric – joggers can be cool for a a going out look with heels.

Denim Jacket 

An oversized denim jacket with a white tee and a pair of fitted joggers is perfect for springtime weekends.

Leather Jacket

I love the idea of hard + soft by pairing a more fitted jogger like the Lululemon align with a cropped leather jacket. I’ve worn this look on flights before.

Sherpa Jacket

I love the texture that a sherpa jacket offers so try pairing a more cropped, boxy sherpa jacket atop your joggers.

With High Heels

Want a sporty-spice inspired look? Buy a pair of sequin or silk joggers and style them with a strappy high heel sandal or a cute, sleek heeled bootie. You could top this look with a tuxedo shirt or a silk button down.
