My Winter Beauty Skin & Hair Saviors

Winter Beauty Favorites I wit & whimsy

We’ve arrived, haven’t we? We’ve arrived to the crazy, dry, itchy, uncomfortable part of Winter that wreaks havoc on our skin and has me wanting to bathe in body oil 24/7. Now, since that isn’t obviously possible, I’ve built up an arsenal of products to help combat all my winter beauty woes and today I’m breaking them down for you one by one.

  • Sara Happ Dream Slip Lip Treatment. I’ve tried out a lot of lip masks and lip balms before bedtime but this is the best one, hands down, I’ve ever tried. My lips get so crazy dry during Winter and after just one round of this nighttime treatment, my lips are like new when I wake up.
  • Klorane Body Wash. I recently sped through a bottle of this because I loved using it during my nighttime showers to help with itchy, dry skin on my legs and arms the past couple of months. The texture is really smooth and creamy and builds an amazing froth as you use it with a loofa. (Klorane is one of my favorite French pharmacy brands. )
  • Kerastase Discipline Smoothing Mask. My longtime colorist recommended the Kerastase Discipline line for me last year and I’ve been using the shampoo, conditioner and this mask ever since. If you want crazy soft hair that feels transformed after too much heat styling and you also want to fight frizz that is inevitable with hat weather, this is the hair mask for you.
  • Oribe Serene Scalp Shampoo. During Winter I have the lovely joy of dealing with a dry scalp. To combat flaking, I’ve been using this shampoo that has salicylic acid and botanical extracts to both exfoliate and soothe at the same time. I sub it in once a week to keep flaking at bay. A great, affordable alternative I’ve used in the past as well is Head & Shoulders. (But I’m very obsessed with the smell of the Oribe products – ha!)
  • Rodin Face Oil. This is one of the most expensive skincare items that I have continually bought because its results are that good. I always get compliments on my skin when I’m religious about using this oil and overall I am a big believer in the power of oils for your face. It is packed with hydrating and nourishing ingredients to combat everything from dryness to aging and even puffiness and skin’s elasticity. It’s gold. Solid gold.
  • Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel. This stuff is like a drink of water for your skin. It’s a heavy dose of hyaluronic acid that’s known for its hydrating properties and there’s no wonder there’s almost 500 good reviews of it on Dermstore. Every December I bring this back in rotation and it works wonders. (It’s actually specially formulated to help your moisturizer go to work, too!)
  • Darphin Radiance Cream. This moisturizer does double duty by helping to slow the affects of aging but also is deeply hydrating. I apply it after I use a face oil during Winter because my skin drinks up both. I love this line so, so much.
  • Agent Nateur Holi Body Oil. One of very few body products I actually use that I’ve talked about several times on the blog before. (I really can’t stand body lotion for some reason?!) This body oil absorbs super quickly so there’s no wait time between using it and donning your clothes. It smells like roses and the bottle is chic enough to leave out in your bathroom. Win/win/win.
  • Susanne Kaufmann Essential Bath Oil for the SensesI had to include this bath oil because it does double duty. It’s lovely and luxurious in your bath and then keeps your skin super soft afterwards. If my skin is dry and itchy when I get into the bath, it’s resolved after when I use this.
  • Darphin Eye Cream. Skin ages more quickly if it is dehydrated so it is essential to keep the area around your eye ripe with hydrating TLC. I use this Darphin Eye Cream every night before bed so I am giving it a boost of hydration while also working to firm up the delicate skin in that area. (In the morning, I swear by this Clarins Eye Cream to depuff and hydrate before I apply any makeup. There is truly nothing worse than trying to put on under eye concealer onto dry, flaky skin!)
  • Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. I just spoke to this mask in this recent post but had to include it here, too as I look at is a shot of hydration for your skin. I use it more as a moisturizer than a mask as I never end up tissuing any of it off (my skin is THIRSTY this time of year) and I plan to start bringing it on planes with me given how well it absorbs and how well it gets to work.
  • dr. brandt hydrobiotic mask. If you’re impatient and have dry skin, this mask is for you. Just smooth if over your face after you’ve done your nighttime skincare routine and head to bed. It’ll work overnight to cure stubborn dryness. More on it in this post.
  • Farmacy Honey Potion Mask. My other favorite wintertime mask. This mask is a dream to use this season because it warms on contact as you apply it all over your face. Its honey helps to get rid of any bacteria (great if you’re an acne sufferer) and skin is super plump and hydrated following use.

oooh I want to try the Farmacy mask, I LOVE their products. I also really want to try some of the Kristin Ess scalp products that she just launched at Target! My scalp gets soo dry when it’s cold.

    • Meghan says:

I just bought her scalp scrub! I will report back. I am obsessed with Christophe Robin’s but it is $$$ so excited to try hers. And Farmacy is sooo good! Definitely try this mask!

That Kerastase maskeratine is EVERYTHING. My hairdresser would use it on me every time I saw her during the winter months and I finally bought my own. I use it maybe once a week, maybe less? It really is great!

Really like Kerastase products but when you combine shampoo, conditioner and mask it gets pretty pricey so I dont use on the regular. Im Canadian so the price point is even higher. Love Kiehls Midnight Oil and Avacado eye cream as well as Benefit eyebrow pencils and mascaras and I would like to try Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. The products listed above are my regulars but it;s always fun to try new stuff. I usually buy trial sizes from Sephora before I commit.

    • Meghan says:

Agree that they really add up! I’ve heard great things about both of those Kiehls products so need to look into them – thank you for the recs! Also a big fan of trial size at Sephora – I always stock up on those during their sales!
