Noteworthy 2.14

It’s time for the latest installment of Noteworthy – my monthly series of things I’ve been using, watching, reading or loving of late. Hope you find something you love, too!

Noteworthy 2.14

Aera Diffuser

If you’re a longtime reader you know I really love an essential oils diffuser. I didn’t think it was a scenario that could be improved much until I was sent the Aera diffuser which is a “smart” diffuser. This sleek diffuser is a game changer. I am, in a word, obsessed. Instead of regularly having to fill a diffuser with water and dropping in a few drops of essential oils, the Aera has fragrances that you plug into the device and that can be controlled by an app.

You can literally schedule when the Aera turns on and off (mine is every night 7-9PM) via your phone and also control the intensity of the fragrance without even getting up! The scents last a long time (the one I’ve been using for the past several weeks is still 97% full according to the app) and I absolutely love how hands-off this diffuser is.

Dark Sky Weather App

I have always loathed the Apple Weather app due to the fact that it is rarely accurate. It would say not to expect rain and then I’d walk outside the house sans umbrella right as drizzle was starting or get stuck in flurries that I wasn’t told to expect. You get the point. Anyhow, I decided to download the Dark Sky app and it is amazing. It has been crazy accurate so far. And I love how it sends you notifications like “Rain starting in Brooklyn in 20 minutes” – it is brilliant!

It also pushes a daily summary every morning. So I know what to expect (and wear!) for the day. The hour by hour weather breakdown has been spot on and frankly I have become hooked on checking the weather as a result. I’ve practically banished my Apple weather app to a place I’ll never see it again. Dark Sky is a few dollars to buy but it is 100% worth it.

The Laundress Sport Detergent

After starting BBG last year I quickly realized my usual laundry detergent wasn’t cutting it when it came to making my gross and sweaty workout clothes feel fresh after being washed. Enter: The Laundress Sport Detergent. It does a great job of removing perspiration, stains and any odors from clothing that has been designed to workout in. (Performance fabrics are great for working out; less great for being able to get super clean using traditional detergents it turns out.) You can also use this detergent to remove chlorine, salt and sand from swimwear – woot! As with other Laundress products, this detergent smells great. And is super concentrated so a little goes a long way. (Related: a conversation with the founders of The Laundress.)

Felix Gray Blue Light Glasses

Over the past six months or so I was noticing my eyes feeling tired and somewhat sore by the end of a day. I spend sun up to sun down on a screen so this isn’t all that surprising. But I decided it was time for me to look into glasses that’ll help block some of the blue light my eyes are constantly absorbing. I was gifted the Jemison and Nash frames from Felix Gray and really like the Nash. So far on the days where I wear the blue light protective glasses my eyes feel less strained. The biggest issue for me with blue light glasses though is remembering to wear them. It’s a habit change as I’ve only ever had glasses for distance. So I’m working on making them a part of my routine on work days.

Not familiar with blue light blocking glasses? They help you to stay focused, can even improve sleep (blue light is notorious for being disruptive to sleep) and they work to reduce eye strain and protect your eyes overall. I have a feeling they’ll be the norm soon for all of us in our technology-addicted lives! Do you use a pair? Would love to hear your experience.
