Organize Me ’09

January 19, 2009

Getting organized is always one of people’s top New Years Resolutions. Me? I don’t necessarily believe in resolutions, but I do like making more of a To Do List as a means of accomplishing things or, in some cases, starting the necessary steps for working towards something. For those of you who definitely need to get organized though in ’09, try some of these tips. Want more? Subscribe to the blog Unclutterer. Editor Erin Doland is an organizational goddess. (So good that Real Simple asked her to write for one of their blogs).

  • Decide what exactly it is you want to get organized. Is it those files sitting in piles on your desk? Is it your priorities? Is it your closet? Decide what aspects of your life are most in need of organization and tackle those first.
  • Give yourself some timing. Decide when you’d like to accomplish each organizational project by and keep yourself on track.
  • Avoid procrastination. The thing standing between you and getting organized is almost undoubtedly procrastination. It’s what caused you not to be organized in 2008 (and 2007 and 2007 and…you get the point). Don’t freak out if you don’t stay to your set schedule (see point above), but just ensure you keep on track. Need help with this? Tell those who know you best about your goals and have them keep you on track.

Now go forth & organize! You’ll definitely feel better once you’ve got the clutter under control.
