The other week I wrote about how to shop sample sales and today I’m wearing one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever scored at a recent one. I didn’t try on this dress  (a habit I’m guilty of all too often) and when I got it home it was actually a bit too long and the sleeves bunched from also being too long. I took it into a tailor and in less than a week it was back in my hands and it fit to a T.

Tailoring is something I wish I had taken up sooner. I used to watch loads of episodes of What Not to Wear with my sister and my mom when I was in high school and Stacey and Clinton always spoke about the importance of having a tailor. So often we pass on great pieces thinking they don’t fit right when in actuality, with some small tweaks – you could end up with a wonderful garment that was well worth investing in.

I don’t have an army of little black dresses like women should. It’s why this dress stood out to me. Having a go-to dress for more formal occasions and business meetings is something every woman should have but I like when there are unexpected details. The leather cuffs and leather shoulder details were what stood out to me on this particular dress. Below I’ve culled together some great LBD options if you’re on the hunt –  prices range from affordable to investment.

I wore this ensemble for some press meetings I did for a client with Zanna Roberts Rassi. I also wore it for my Galentine’s Day while my girlfriends were in town and I’ll wear it for my next business trip as well. It just goes to show how when you invest in a item that fits you well and – more importantly – makes you feel good, you’ll be glad you did so.

As an aside, here I’m debuting the lip color I customized and I wrote about in this post. I wanted the perfect daytime shade to wear to work and love how subtle it is.

It was only 6 degrees when Bekka and I shot these photos – you can tell how cold I was by the redness under my tights – this is what happens when you don’t look at the weather report before you leave the house! Lesson learned.

I hope you had a great weekend. I focused on my workouts (more on that soon), tried a new spot for dinner, tackled my taxes and caught up on errands. Now I’m prepping for my sister to visit this weekend – yeehaw!

those leather cuffs really do give that dress something extra – It’s such a fab wardrobe staple, but it’s also very glam!

The dress is great, the tights are hideous….especially with the booties…check a mirror before you go out.
