Growing up in the Midwest I have ingrained in me a love of being preppy. Yes, I admit it. Give me a polo, pearls and plaid shorts any day of the week and I’ll be thrilled. My roommates tease me when I declare it “plaid short season” in reference to the time of year when boys begin to start wearing them.
Unfortunately, life in San Francisco does not allow for such thrills quite as often, but it does make it all the more exciting when I do see them (enter strolls in the Marina here).
My favorites of all time are Ralph Lauren and J.Crew. Search my closet and you’re guaranteed to find a whole lot of articles that bear those labels. J.Crew provides endless amounts of effortlessly chic, but casual clothes that are able to be paired with one another. I’m in love with their shoes and jackets most of all.
And of course, a WITs closet wouldn’t be complete without a stream of polos in various colors, collars popped of course. RL’s stripped oxfords also make it easy to get dressed, but still look put-together and preppy.
There could not be a better time to bring the prep out of your closet as right now. So don the popped collars, bright colors and enjoy going preppy this Spring!
I completely admire Annie Liebowitz and absolutely love her work. Her talent and ability to capture natural beauty is awe-inspiring. Her shoots do not produce over-the-top scenarios and she does not feel the need to use grandiose sets or props so that, in the final product, she ends up conveying simple and touching images.
Currently under fire for “inappropriate” shots taken of teen star Miley Cyrus for Vanity Fair, Annie is unfazed by the criticism because at the end of the day, she is still doing what she does best and that is capturing subjects in relaxed and natural environments to captivate audiences with portraits. When pouring over fashion magazines (as all WITs do), I love that I can tell immediately who did the shoot. Annie’s work is always recognizable by the photos’ soft lines and radiating glow. They are unlike any other portraits by other photographers. On exhibit at San Francisco’s Legion of Honor right now, are 197 pieces of Annie’s work- ranging from large framed prints to contact sheets proofed by the artist herself. I myself have done photography for many years now, but portraits were a category I had never felt strong in. My favorites at this particular exhibit have been integrated into this post- I found them truly inspiring. It reminds me of how important capturing the moments in our lives that are so worth treasuring and necessary in order to hold onto them forever.
If you live in the Bay Area, I highly suggest you stop by the exhibit- it is so worthwhile.
In honor of Earth Day-a tad late I realize-I wanted to highlight some of the best ways to dress while still being environmentally friendly. Not the first thing you may think of when you head out to get that new top or bag, but it’s actually a lot easier than one may think!
C&C California sells their fabulous and totally cozy clothes in organic cotton for certain items.
ZOOEY and Love & Eight also has darling t-shirts like this one that I’m pretty sure I need to have…
