Out and About in San Francisco: The Ferry Building!

June 25, 2008

With summer in full swing, spending a Saturday morning at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market is a must-do for anyone living or visiting San Francisco. When I’m feeling especially motivated, I throw on my tennies and run along the Embarcadero down to AT&T Park, ending at the Ferry Building and rewarding myself with a Peet’s coffee and some fresh flowers from the ever gorgeous selection. Blue and white hydrangeas, peonies, sweet peas, gerbers and bright sunflowers are just some of my favorites! Not to mention the start of cherry season!

The Ferry Building is an SF institution, and even if you had a few too many cocktails on Friday night, there are many great spots to visit in the building any day of the week. A foodie’s paradise, here is my list of favorites at the Ferry Building:
The Slanted Door restaurant (my birthday choice three years and running)

Miette Patisserie (two words: princess cake)

Sur La Table (perfect to pick up some goodies for a WIT cocktail party)

Ciao Bella Gelato (pumpkin gelato in the fall is not to be missed)

Mijita (great for beer and tacos)

Marketbar (on a sunny day, have brunch or a post-work cocktail on the patio)

Taylor’s Refresher (burgers with good california wine? yes please!)

Travelling Gals

June 20, 2008

I once loved traveling to destinations. For me, it’s always been about the whole experience- the stacks of fashion magazines, the mini cups of juice and soda, the deep breath you take when you’re finally belted into your seat and are leaving your worries behind…because, let’s face it- us WITs are absolute jet setters.

That being said, I’m currently stuck on the runway at SFO and have been for almost two hours. I think it goes without saying that flying is not what it used to be. I stood behind a woman today checking her bag that was six pounds overweight and United asked for $100! $100!!!!! Do you know what I could buy with a hundred dollars?! When did traveling for pleasure become traveling with pain?
The airline industry faces many challenges right now and as I sit here in 27G I figure I will remind all the WITs the importance of patience and planning ahead. Look for fare sales, show up early and face the fact that a flight no longer includes any amenities (goodbye rold golds and warm hand towels 🙁 ). But, do remember to always bring a good witty read, wear a comfy traveling outfit (read: juicy velour) and find the WIT way to travel in style however possible!!

Hot Pink, love it or hate it?

June 18, 2008

Hot tip: All you WIT’s out there, peep toe slingbacks are the quintessential summer shoes to elongate your legs. I stumbled across this HOT pair of peep toe cork Christian Louboutin’s, 5-inches of glory, trademark red soles included. For a staggering price of $830, I love to hate them. These CL’s may be a bit too trendy to keep around, however, if you’re spending the dough, why not flaunt them all day/night long. The 1/2 ince platform is borderline striptease, however, when paired with a neutrals (i.e. solid, warm colors, like cream, black, yellow, champagne, etc) they will transform any outfit from the mundane to fabulous.
