Witty Conversation with Jess Kirby I wit & whimsy

Tell me about yourself in 3 sentences.

I grew up in Newport, RI surfing at the beach, playing pond hockey in the winter and always exploring. I was a tomboy growing up but also a ballerina. My parents always taught me I could be and do anything so I was/am always up for anything. I lived in NYC and LA in my 20s before moving back to Newport and I feel like the luckiest person in the world that I get to call it home.

Why did you start Prosecco & Plaid? What has become your favorite part?

I was really unhappy at my job and wanted to find a way into the fashion industry so I thought if I started a blog I could prove that I had what it took. But then I realized I didn’t want to work for anyone else anymore so I quite my job and started blogging full time and doing digital marketing consulting for other brands about a year ago.

Witty Conversation I wit & whimsy I Jess KirbyWhat does a typical day look like for you?

Ironically (or maybe not ironic) most of my day I’m sitting at a computer. I think there’s a misconception that blogging is filled with lunches, shopping trips and travel. Occasionally yes, but most of the time I’m working at my computer, writing, editing photos, corresponding with brands, coming up with styling concepts, reading contracts, etc. I always make time to walk my dog, and a lot of days we are out shooting as well. And I’m trying to get better about doing yoga more often.

What are your top 3 favorite places to eat/drink in Rhode Island?

I LOVE Mexican food so Tallulah’s Tacos in Providence is a favorite. I don’t often leave the island but when I do it’s usually to go there. In Newport, I love margaritas outside at Diego’s or Perro Salado, and for drinks nothing beats the lawn at Castle Hill.

Witty Conversation with Jessica Kirby I on wit & whimsyA favorite place you’ve been to. And a place you’re dying to visit.

Where do I begin? In the states I really love going to San Francisco, the food is just so good. I went to Paris with my Mom last year and it was just absolutely magical, I can’t wait to go back. And I’m dying to go to Greece and Ireland.

What’s a piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

Enjoy the ride, I was a bit of a stress case in my 20s especially, and it was usually over things that were really insignificant.

Jess Kirby I witty conversation with wit & whimsyWhat are 3 of your favorite apps and why?

I can’t live without VSCO for photo editing. I love Instagram, who doesn’t? And I love Snapchat because it’s so carefree and spontaneous.

Who (or what) inspires you?

I get inspired by everything, travel, nature, people, if you keep your eyes and ears open you can find inspiration everywhere.

Witty Conversation with Prosecco & Plaid I wit & whimsyWhat will you be wearing this Fall?

Denim, denim and more denim. I’m a jeans a tee girl at heart. But I like to feel polished so ankle boots with a little heel and a cute sweater or blazer are my favorites to finish the look.

Finish this sentence “I have a dream…”

…to live on a farm with tons of animals, be able to grow my own food and have a huge brick fireplace.
