A Week in the Life Of… (Part I)

March 2, 2016

If you’ve been reading this blog for a long time, you know that I don’t blog full time but rather work as a VP at a public relations agency in addition to keeping the lights on at wit & whimsy. When I meet people in person and tell them they are always intrigued to hear how I do both. Both “gigs” are very demanding, require a lot of creativity and brain power and either one would be enough to keep me busy but I made a commitment to do both a long time ago and my goal is always to do both well.

Since I often get questions about what an average week looks like for me when in New York, I’m excited to be sharing a bit more about that in today’s post with is a two part series styling some of my favorite basics from one of my most beloved brands, Everlane. If you come here often then you know that the San Francisco-based purveyor of chic and simple wardrobe staples makes a regular appearance as I rotate their pieces heavily in looks featured on this blog ever since I first discovered them a few years ago.

Weekends that I spend at home in the city are pretty habitual for me. I spent my first few years in New York completely over-scheduling myself so this past year I’ve made a commitment to myself to leave my days a bit more open. I’ve been traveling less the last few weeks as you may have read so I’ve been soaking up being able to get a weekend routine underway.

Weekends in Soho

I’ve been really good about working out on Saturdays and Sundays and be sure to do so first thing in the morning otherwise it won’t happen (I love doing SLT and barre classes especially on the weekends and am a fan of Classpass, too.) Then I will do brunch usually one day and other days love to find new coffee shops like Maman to grab a cup + a pastry to go. I’ll run errands and walk a lot. I try to avoid public transit on weekends and just see where my two feet will take me. It’s something I love about New York – no two days ever seem the same – no matter what habits or routines you may get in.

If I’m not in athletic wear, this first ensemble is what I live in this time of year. Layers and cozy sweaters paired with denim + comfy shoes. This Everlane waffle knit turtleneck got worn two days in a row…it is that good. I paired it with a striped tee as it has a more cropped fit. (The stripe tee addiction is real.)

I wind down my weekends by often spending several hours of Sunday dedicated to building out wit & whimsy content, catching up on email & prepping social posts. I also have a tradition with my roommates of hosting what we call #SND or Sunday Night Dinners. We like to have different people over and we’ll do the cooking and the guests bring the wine and the “Sunday scaries” seem to melt away during the evening. (You can see pieces of most of them if you follow me on Snapchat @meghandono!)

At nighttime, I generally get more dressed up and head out with girlfriends (#singlestatus given those two full time jobs I was mentioning that take up so much of my time! Mental note: get more dates on the books!)

Sweater Dress + Leather Leggings

This time of year, this cashmere sweater dress is the perfect cozy fit. I paired it with faux leather leggings and my go-to evening heels.

Next week I’ll be styling some additional pieces and sharing what an average life M-Friday looks like for me! Hope you’ll tune in then and that you’ve enjoyed having a little more insight into how I spend my days. XO
