Summer Style in the Hamptons

The Maidstone I East Hampton, NY

Having lived in a major city since I graduated college it is rare that I drive. I’ll rent cars here and there for trips but I don’t ever think to get one and do day or weekend trips from Manhattan.

I had been hoping to squeeze in a trip to the Hamptons this weekend but also was hoping to do so with an avoidance of crowds and traffic. But guess what? That is an impossible scenario when it comes to the Hamptons during the summer.

That being said, when Enterprise CarShare reached out asking if I’d like to take one of their shared vehicles somewhere to experience the service, you better believe a weekday trip out East was the first thing that popped into my head.

An experience with Enterprise CarShareTaylor, Bekka and I hit the road last week for a long day trip that started early and ended late and was jam packed with charm, good eats and sunshine in between.

I had so much fun reveling in the freedom of driving on a beautiful summer day. A great playlist, the windows down, salt water in my hair and good company all made the day pretty close to perfection.

The CarShare experience itself was so easy. Like, so easy that by the time I was pulling in to return the car, I was already plotting where else I could take a summer day trip. Once you’re a member of the CarShare platform, you’re sent a card with a driver ID, you can make reservations online or through the app and then you’ll lock and unlock your car with the ID card. It’s rather magical and fuel is even included in the price of your rental for the day.

An experience with Enterprise CarShare

I can totally see how people in cities would find a CarShare experience more desirable than owning a car and dealing with monthly insurance payments and really expensive parking garages. The whole process makes it seamless to getting wheels when you want them to go where you want to (and is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week!)

The Maidstone I East Hampton, NYOnce we arrived in the Hamptons, we had a great tour of the eclectic The Maidstone hotel and then dined on a delicious lunch in their gorgeous garden. We followed that with a visit to Hither Hills beach (the only beach featuring $10 parking unlike the other beaches with permit-only parking which will cost you a cool $375 for the summer…no thanks!) The weather was so perfect and the water felt incredible.

And no trip to the Hamptons is complete without lobster rolls. We took our salty selves to Red Hook Lobster Pound where we sat under colored umbrellas at a picnic table and washed down the lobster roll with lemonades and then headed straight for homemade at ice cream at John’s Drive In (hey…the bathing suit portion of the day was over after all!?)

So a few key learnings were secured last week:

  1. Take a random Monday off and head to the beach.
  2. Take advantage of car sharing for little getaways to escape the city. Good for the soul!

  1. What an awesome opportunity! I interned at Enterprise in college! I learned a ton about the professional working world, and cars! haha
