The Roger Hotel New York City

The Benefits of a Staycation

I love this time of year dearly but it can also seem hard at times to stay on top of everything you’re working to accomplish before the year is over, isn’t it? My days have been a bit nutty and I feel like things are now just starting to slow down a little…just in time for me to pursue some R&R in Colorado with my family.

Last month during a particularly crazy week, I checked into The Roger to have a night away. I was planning to get more work done but after having a delicious meal at The Parlor, I headed back up to my room and decided to give myself the night off. What a treat it was!

I lit a mini candle, poured a glass of wine and started a new book in a large, luxurious bed with peace and quiet. It was glorious.

In the morning I used the room as a temporary office to have a change of scenery and by noon I was checked out and back home feeling recharged and re-inspired.

A few staycation tips:

  • Request a quiet room with a lot of natural light when booking. I love opening all the shades in the morning to have sun pouring in as I begin to wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
  • While a huge fan of room service, I also quite love having dinner in a hotel restaurant but then ordering dessert to bring up to bed to enjoy in my pjs!
  • Upon checkin, ask that the hotel bring you the paper in the morning. I hardly ever read a hard copy newspaper anymore but love doing so in a hotel with a cup of coffee.
  • Pack the comforts of home with you. We’re talking Netflix, magazines you haven’t had a chance to read, eye masks and a mini candle.

In exciting news to kickoff the week on a high note, The Roger and I have teamed up to give you a proper getaway night of your own! Enter to win a one night stay at the property by following The Roger on Instagram, following yours truly on Instagram and commenting on today’s blog post below with why you could use a night off at a hotel. Your comment must be recorded by midnight EST this coming Saturday, December 17th and I’ll announce the winner next week. (Note: no travel is provided and some limitations and black-out dates may apply.) Good luck!

Because winter is stressing me out so much! A nice train ride in and a pampering night would ease my nerves so much.

  2. Gladys says:

What a beautiful hotel! I would love a night of some “me” time, perhaps with a dinner with friends also to catch up – just to get a break from the daily grind and reboot. 🙂

  3. Alec says:

Such a neat idea! I’d love a staycation at The Roger because I have the winter blues, I’m turning 30 in two months, my mind is all crazy because of some new projects I’m starting, and lastly I would just enjoy the new experience in my own town of NYC. R&R at The Roger sounds wonderful! :o)

Because New York can be so damn aggressive sometimes!

  5. Hitha Palepu says:

I can’t tell you how badly I need this.
Very badly, as evidenced by the knots in my back, the breakouts on my face, and the circles under my eyes.
Help me Meghan Donovan – you’re my only hope.

  6. Abby says:

I love NYC in the winter time, truly magical. I’m only a short train ride away and it would be the perfect little getaway!

  7. Elisabeth says:

This would be amazing! I would love to invite friends over to the hotel’s restaurant for dinner, and then head up to cozy in for the night in my room! Winter is stressful- a cozy night sounds awesome!

P.S. That picture of you reading the paper is TOO CUTE.

  12. Sara says:

My shower is currently just cold water (!). Needless to say, it’s depressing. A staycation with a warm shower would be much-needed. Plus, getting able to spend some quality time with a comforter sounds fantastic. 🙂

  13. Lisa Kairis says:

If this offer extends to July, 2017 sign me up! Planning a girls weekend trip to NYC (my 1st time ever!) and living in the lap of luxury and comfort for even one night is my idea of perfection. 🙂

  14. Britt says:

Because who couldn’t use a night off!

  15. Lauren Ashley says:

With a stressful year with some health and family issues dealt my way, I could use a night away at this lovely space for my 28th birthday… a quiet night and a great meal would be an exquisite way to celebrate my birthday and the beginning of the new year with my boyfriend!

  16. Jenna says:

I could use a staycation because I am trying to make myself more of a priority this year. In a busy job, committed relationship, friends, family, book club, social platforms – it’s been pretty crazy on a day to day basis! Also, I am newly engaged and trying to keep that celebration strong. And I turn 30 in January. Many things to celebrate but I’d also cherish a good night’s sleep at a hotel. 😉

  17. kiley says:

because NYC has become a place of work anymore (ok…and to see some great girlfriends!) and not as much play time anymore! need a fun NYC non-work evening! XO!

  18. Kellie says:

I’d love a staycation with my husband since this is the first year we’re not traveling home to CA to spend the holidays with my family.

This is amazing. I used to live in NYC and miss it dearly. Would love to visit and stay at this amazing hotel!!

Because a night away to relax and rejuvenate is just what the doctor ordered!

  23. Diana Pearl says:

Ah, I’ve always wanted to do a staycation at an NYC hotel! Just not something I can usually justify for myself 🙂 I’m seriously obsessed with hotels, and after all the back and forth I’ve done the past few weeks (lots of flights!), a night in a luxurious room (in my home city!) sounds like heaven.

  24. Kathy says:

I’ve been in New York for 5 winters and it’s definitely time to enjoy a staycation in this city! I have been feeling under the weather, so I would really appreciate a chance to get out of my stuffy apartment and have some rest and relaxation.

  25. Hannah says:

my MOM deserves a stay because she’s newly single and finally fully recovered our house from a fire. a staycation in the city would be the perfect way to show her how much I love and appreciate her <3

  27. viv says:

A night away from our {adorable!} 17 month old would be so fun! Fingers crossed 🙂

  28. Erin says:

What a beautiful hotel! I would love to win a stay at The Roger because sometimes you just need a night away from your roommates and tiny NYC apartment to recharge and remember why you moved to New York in the first place. It also doesn’t look like a bad place to escape the cold!

  29. GF says:

so that my fam could come visit me in NYC (I just moved here and they have yet to make it here)! I’m excited for them to see the new life I’ve started building for myself!

  30. Anjerika says:

Nothing says “recharge” like a staycation in the most amazing city! I think we all forget sometimes to take a step back from the daily hustle and bustle that comes with life, and just b-r-e-a-t-h-e. As far as staycations go, you can’t beat NYC — I’d be thrilled to spend a night at The Roger getting reinspired! If not for relaxation, then to keep a case of the winter blahs away 🙂
