Q&A and An Easy Fall Weekend Outfit

October 1, 2018

Happy Monday you guys! Did you have a good one? Can you believe it is October?! We had perfect Saturday weather for a day upstate spent apple picking, eating doughnuts, drinking cider and taking in the Fall colors and it gave me such a pep in my step. Sunday was equally gorgeous and great to take in The Cloisters.

It has been a few months since I’ve done a Q&A so today is a roundup of a bunch of recent questions! Reminder you can always email me or drop your question here. I love getting them!

Q&A and An Easy Fall Weekend Outfit

Today is all about this easy weekend outfit (I don’t think I’ll ever tire of a good pair of go-to jeans and sneakers) and how cute is this sweatshirt? As the weather gets cooler I’d pair it with a utility jacket or suede booties like these or these.

Now, onto the Q&A!

What size and color is your Celine bag?

It is the Mini Size Belt Bag! I’m afraid I don’t know the color because the site is down as the brand transitions its Creative Director but it is from the FW18 collection.

Have you liked adding BBG to your routine? Are you happy with the results?

For sure! My body was feeling stagnate and I was craving change that would give me results. More on my experience with BBG so far can be found here. And I start Week 9 today!

I would love to hear your rainwear recs—literally anything you like/recommend! I have a pair of Hunter’s from a few years ago but sadly they no longer fit my wide calves (sigh). And I live in D.C. so don’t need anything too hardcore but just enough to get me around the city.

So I always feel like I never know what to wear when it rains when it comes to footwear because while I love my Hunter boots, they aren’t always right for what I need to wear that day! BUT, per your calf comment, did you know that Hunter came out with a wide calf version!? The adjustable strap is so smart! Anyhow, for days where Hunters aren’t an option, I got these a few years ago on sale and they work well to pair with jeans but I definitely think they are wildly overpriced.

The closest alternative I found for a much better price ($55) were these which I think would be good for days it is pouring out.  This high gloss similar style is also nice and probably easier to maintain. (Gloss rain boots don’t get stained from salt or residue as easily as matte versions). I use umbrellas from Madewell and J.Crew almost exclusively as they hold up so well, are compact and I love that they pop out eject so easily.

As for outerwear, I finally realized having a hooded rain jacket was in fact so, so handy. This one is going to last you forever and this one is good too. And I am 100% an advocate for a classic trench coat because even if you feel a mess in the weather, at least you won’t look it. Club Monaco always does a good one. I also like this one, this one and this one. Oh and this is somewhat related but the packable Hunter boots are sheer brilliance for when you’re traveling to a place that requires rain boots! I bought them for Ireland and they were worth every penny.

Any good recommendations for restaurants in New York that are good for groups?

Great question as so many favorite spots are small + cozy and not the best for groups. A few spots that come to mind though are Quality Eats, Rosemary’s, Abc Kitchen, Vic’s, The Smith and Cecconi’s.

I’m coming to New York soon – if you had to pack a lot of favorite spots in – what would you recommend?

There’s obviously no shortage of great things you can spend your time doing in New York! If I had to do a day full of favorite things though…this would be it. And all my favorites can be found here.

Do you have a favorite hostess gift to give?

I love bringing Sugarfina to someone’s home or a great candle! If you have enough lead time, I can’t recommend Kindred Home candles enough. She’s a female small business owner and her candles are gorgeous smelling, in beautiful jars and have wood wicks which I adore. And, of course, in a pinch a nice bottle of wine always works well, too!

Are you hiring for your PR company?

Not at this time. I am always so honored and flattered when resumes land in my inbox but at this time I remain a party of one (+ seasonal help from an amazing intern!) and don’t currently have plans to hire a full-time employee. As my business grows I may look at bringing someone on board but don’t have immediate plans to do this.

I don’t have a lot of money to spend to get new clothes for Fall – any favorite places to shop for more affordable things?

My go-to for affordable Fall clothes is definitely Everlane. The clothes and shoes are really well made and sold at fair prices. Their sweaters in particular for Fall & Winter are always so good and almost always under $100. I also am always pinning things under $100 here and adding finds here with a similar price point!

This is a really random and maybe weird question (lol) but do you have a credit card you’d recommend for good rewards?

I have an American Express Delta card and can’t recommend it enough. I get a Delta mile for every dollar spent and it adds up well enough for me to book roundtrip airfare to Paris like I’m doing next week! It has also assisted me in keeping status with Delta year over year so I get a few upgrades from time to time when I’m flying and I can board earlier. #Blessed. The customer service with American Express has also been the best I’ve ever experience when it comes to banking.

Thank you so much for pulling the rain gear recommendations!! Definitely going to have to look into those wide calf Hunter boots. The trench is such a good idea to still look pulled together in the rain-especially for days where the rain is off/on.
