Gray Winter Days + My Favorite Hibernation Activities

Ever since last week I have been in major hibernation mode. I’ve had minimal plans with friends and if I’m not in a meeting or working out, I’ve been at home staying super cozy as I work.

My favorite ways to hibernate?

I get in comfy clothes (usually these sweatpants or these leggings plus this amazing Old Navy sweater find and then my slippers or favorite cashmere socks), cook a hearty meal (current favorites on rotation are this risotto and this bolognese), pour a glass of wine, light multiple candles (currently I’m loving Otherland), get under the coziest blanket I own and then turn on Netflix (obsessed with Schitt’s Creek right now and also blew through the most recent season of Grace & Frankie) or I watch a favorite feel-good movie on Amazon Prime (included on repeat for me are The Holiday, First Wives Club, Roman Holiday & Father of the Bride). I only recently discovered you can purchase your favorite movies on Amazon and then my new-ish Samsung Smart TV syncs with my account and can stream them – brilliant!

Then I end the night either with taking a bath or by getting into bed and reading a bit (trying to do this more frequently and start it earlier in the evenings as I strive for earlier bed times this year!) I am about 100 pages into this book and enjoying it so far! (The author wrote Big Little Lies.) It’s been so, so chilly this week and I’m loving the excuse to get super cozy.

What about you guys? What are your guys’ favorite ways to hibernate?

  1. I think one of my greatest skills in life is hibernation 😉 I secretly love that no one makes plans in January so I can stay home and hibernate nearly every evening and weekend. Right now I’m working my way through The Bold Type and Will & Grace (on your recommendation) during the week, and can’t wait to get into Grace & Frankie and Jack Ryan next. Weekends are currently for decluttering every drawer/cupboard in my house, reading, lighting all the candles, cooking something delicious, putting on a Nancy Meyers / Nora Ephron film, and taking a bubble bath. BLISS! Staying in is definitely the new going out (at least until Spring arrives).

First Wives Club is one of may favorites! Perhaps this is embarrassing to admit but I own all 7 seasons of The Golden Girls on DVD. My girlfriends and I will get together on yucky or cold weekend nights and watch that show. It’s the best!

I love this post! My barre studio also used to light Otherland candles, they smell so good. And, I’m also currently LOVING Schitt’s Creek and the newest season of Grace and Frankie! And, I JUST bought a very similar sweater to the one in your post! A cozy turtleneck in grey/cream/camel. I also recently finished Nine Perfect Strangers (currently reading Circe). Basically, I relate heavily to so much of this post!
