The Many Benefits of Breakfast

p10cereal2epsWe’ve heard it a million times, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” but how many of us really follow that rule? Personally, I’m obsessed with breakfast and can’t really get through my days anymore without it. Here’s why I love it:

1. I eat less during the day if I start with breakfast. Why? Because I’m not ravenous for lunch by 11:30 and then needing to snack at 3:30. By starting with breakfast, I push back my entire food schedule which makes me eat less (we all know this is great)

2. Breakfast offers so many options! I’m a huge fan of the cereal club. No, it’s not an official club, but it does allow me to feel not so ridiculous when I grocery shop and buy five boxes of different types of ceral at one time. My current favorites? Honey Bunches of Oats with Cinnamon Clusters, Raisin Bran and Granola (with fresh fruit whenever possible). Not a cereal lover? Try oatmeal, fruit or toast.

3. Breakfast makes you feel more energized. When you skip breakfast, the chances of you feeling sluggish before noon pretty much double. And who wants that? We already need coffee to wake us up- why not do more for oursevles whenever possible? Eat breakfast and you’ll do your metabolisim and energy a huge favor.

4. It’s flexible. We’re pretty sure your office offers a fridge or toaster or microwave like ours. So if they do, remember you’re not confined to pounding breakfast before you leave the house in the morning. Take your cereal in a plastic bag and grab a mini carton of milk at the shop near your office. Or, bring bread or an english muffin with a jam jar to toast once you’re settled into your day.
