I’ve lived in six apartments during my 10 years in New York so with my most recent move – in the midst of a global pandemic – I wanted to really invest in the space to make it as home-y, cozy and as comfortable feeling as possible. This meant installing proper window treatments in the space for which I had the pleasure of working with Everhem– a new, female-founded small business making it easier to shop for custom window treatments.

The experience of shopping on Everhem is night and day when you visit their site vs. other players in the shade and drape industry. Everhem is modernizing the process and making it easier for you to bring your space to life. They offer all sorts of handy tutorials so the experience of measuring, designing and ordering is a breeze – instead of the complicated and intimidating process I always assumed custom window treatments to be.

The difference between my home before and after my Everhem shades and drapes is truly so notable. The space was not only warmed up by their presence but the fabrics also tie the place together.

Your bespoke Everhem window coverings are made by hand in the USA and shipped to you within 14 business days (As an FYI –  current lead times are extended up to 6 weeks due to COVID-19). Everhem offers a comprehensive instruction manual to help you or any professional handyman to be able to easily install them upon arrival.

The Everhem linen blend fabrics I chose are absolutely gorgeous. I chose their Linen Blend in Cloud for the roman shades and their Linen Blend in Dove for the drapery panels. The Roman Shades feature their blackout lining which I absolutely love and I chose the privacy lining for the drapery panels.

 

I chose to do a flat pleat on my Everhem Roman Shades so they sit neat and tidy at the top of the window and they seamlessly go up and down. (Nothing is worse than shades that are a pain to open and close, right?!)

The drapery panels have a box pleat and sit on black hardware that looks incredibly stylish and ties in nicely to the black accents in my apartment. I love all the customizable options Everhem offers so that the final look feels truly personal to you and your taste.

Are Custom Window Treatments Worth It?

As small as it may sound, the ritual of putting my shades down at night brings a lot of peace to my day. It envelopes me in my studio apartment for the evening and allows me to block out my neighbors and any of their lights that can be disturbing in city life. I love the privacy they bring to my space as well. 

I truly can’t overstate the warmth and cozy aspect they brought to the interior of my home and I now find myself wishing I had made the investment in past rentals because it truly is a beautiful way to personalize your space while also providing practicality.
