Adding Color

Adding Color Burgundy Blouse + White Denim

Adding Color

Longtime followers of wit & whimsy will know I’m really a lover of neutrals. I like to buy quality pieces that wear a lot of ways and often find pieces in black, gray and white to be the most flattering and wearable. That being said, I’ve been working on adding more color and pattern into my wardrobe – have you guys noticed?!

Adding Color to fall outfits

Recently I wore this red dress, this rose printed dress, this blue and white number, this floral dress and this blush + floral printed frock. Baby steps!

If I’m being honest, a lot of my neutral-preferences come as a result of my insecurities I have around my larger than average chest. A lot of prints or patterns or even certain materials or colors can look extremely ill-fitting or they can make my chest look even larger. I’ve spent the better part of the past five years trying to hide and minimize my chest and the easiest way I found to do this was through darker, neutral colors. They’ll probably still be my preference moving forward as it is what makes me feel most confidant and less self-conscious but I am making efforts to add color when I find the right piece! This blouse was such a pretty color and I thought it was different than what I usually wear so it inspired me to round up some other pieces in Fall shades!

More Fall Colors:

Moon River Top (only $65; wearing a M; also comes in Cream) // White Jeans // Shoes // Furla Bag

p.s. what I packed for a weekend Upstate and Fall finds under $150.

Love this, Meghan! Do you have a favorite black or tan bootie you like for fall? I’m having a baby in ten weeks, so the only thing I’m buying right now is shoes, ha.

Oh congrats!! How exciting!! Do you have a budget range in mind? I’ll send you some picks 🙂

I’m more about investing in pieces that will last now – so I think at least in the few hundred dollar range? Of course, some at that price point aren’t worth it, but some are. Thanks so much!

Ok! So my most worn, best loved boots are these: http://bit.ly/2PDDdbs but these are similar and have a lower heel that may be more practical: http://bit.ly/2wPkO4B. Investments for sure but my Newburys have held up SO well for 5+ years and I still haven’t tired of them which is saying something! These I wore almost every other day last winter: http://bit.ly/2NSqMrP and the heel height makes them so comfy for lots of walking and they are great with jeans or dresses/skirts/work pants. Super versatile! Others that are more affordable – these I’ve heard great things about: http://bit.ly/2PII6zZ and I really like these for wearing with jeans http://bit.ly/2PKxUr0. Then these: http://bit.ly/2oJKStt and these: http://bit.ly/2NQtRIZ Hope that helps!!

Thank you!! I think you’re like me in that you love to walk, walk, walk around NYC. I’m just slightly worried about the heel height on those first Rag & Bones and the Loeffler Randalls – but it sounds like you haven’t had a problem!

Can totally vouch for the comfort of those two pairs! The stacked heel is so comfy and reliable. I reach for them time and time again when I want to look more put together and still be able to walk a lot!

It is nice to make a change once in a while! Have you tried using color on the bottom half, as way of getting more comfortable with a colorful outfit? I also have a larger chest and do that a lot. Love from Brazil!

LOVING this color on you! Almost makes me want to branch out and try something other than blacks, whites, greys, and browns 🙂 🙂
