This past week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Phillip Lim showcased his Spring collection for 3.1 Phillip Lim and it did not disappoint. His pieces featured interesting shapes, neutrals in gorgeous fabrics like raw silk, chic dresses that are perfect for a day at the office and to carry you over into a variety of see-and-be-seen events post work and finally, a variety of construction techniques that looked flawless. Literally, every dress in this collection has me swooning. Love, love, love them.
Phillip Lim is one of several up and coming Asian-American designers whose name now seems to be on the lips of everyone talking fashion’s rising stars. Just prior to the beginning of Fashion Week, the Times’ Eric Wilson wrote a piece on Asian-American designers rapidly climbing the fashion ladder, in which Lim was included. He has quickly become a namesake for his dresses and he’s gained a fan following of stars like Kate Hudson and Katie Holmes almost overnight.
Lim’s signature style is to create classic pieces that are as wearable as they are memorable. He inserts quirky accents that enhance his garments, but do not take away from the overall goal of achieving refinement. I love his line for being structured, yet feminine and playful, but elegant. He’s certainly crafted a name for himself and I can’t wait to see more from this CFDA winner (after a mere two years of having started his line!)
