Fall Denim Refresh

October 17, 2024

Fall Outfit featuring Veronica Beard Blazer, Agolde Straight Leg Jeans, Manolo Blahnik Ballerina Flats

I am a jeans girl through and through and while I definitely own my fair share of good jeans, this year and last year I was craving a bit of a refresh.

The last few years I have transitioned my jeans collection into more straight leg vs. skinny styles largely but there’s some fun new styles on the market this season so I have added a few new pairs to my closet this season.

Let’s be honest, sometimes shopping for jeans can be really hard. I for one find model photos often not representative of the styles due to height. I am 5’5″ so often need to see jeans on my own frame and sometimes if I love the fit of a pair I will tailor them or cut them.

I’ve been fielding a lot of questions lately from you guys about how to update your denim given the changing trends this year so I hope this post will be helpful!

I definitely have a variety of favorite pairs and I’ve updated my denim wardrobe over the years to account for certain styles ebbing and flowing in popularity and below are some of the tried & true styles I am still loving wearing as well as my newest denim acquisitions.

Fall Denim Refresh

Reformation Cynthia High Rise Straight Jean

This is a current go-to style for me. It’s versatile, on trend but not too out of my comfort zone. I think they are really flattering on but know they don’t have stretch.

I find the denim at this brand to run quite small and sized up twice to a 29 to get a fit that I could handle.

Best Shoes to Wear in Paris

Agolde Ren Jeans

This silhouette is back in a big way this year. I eased into it with the Agolde Ren jeans (size 28).

I now own three colors! They are comfy, on trend and don’t overwhelm my frame.

The dark Hush color being my newest acquisition.

Madewell Barrel Leg Jean

A very of-the-moment style, the barrel leg jean is on trend and very street style born.

Wearing above the Madewell Darted Barrel Leg Jean in size 28.

Favorite Daughter Jeans

Favorite Daughter Otto High Rise Jean

At 5’5″ these “ankle” jeans actually hit me past the ankle but I like them for their 90s vibe. The true blue wash is so classic and they pair well with a low heeled bootie, ballet flat or sneaker for an on-trend silhouette.

Wearing a size 28.

Things in My Closet I Can't Wait to Wear This Fall

Paige Billy Crop Jeans

The Billy Crop felt like they were made for me when I put them on. They are a high-rise slim straight leg with a cropped ankle length silhouette.

The wash and fabrication has more texture and marbling that gives it a cool, authentic lived-in look and they are rigid (yet comfortable) – my preferred kinda vibe with jeans.

I took my usual size 28 in these. They pair well with a variety of styles of shoes for me from my collection – ballet flats, booties, slingbacks, mules and loafers.

Veronica Beard Daniela Straight Leg Jeans

Safe to say that this was my first pair of VB jeans and will not be my last. I love these! They are a great lived-in kinda denim and super good quality.

Wearing a size 28.

Citizens of Humanity Isola Cropped Boot Jeans

This year I am preferring ecru denim to white denim. This pair sold through a lot of sizes rather quickly but I hope they restock. I took my usual size 28 and I know I’ll be wearing these lots with my collection of favorite ivory cashmere sweaters. Original Post.

Paige Straight Leg Jeans

Paige Sarah Straight Ankle Jeans

It had been a long time since I bought a pair of Paige denim but these are great. The denim is lightweight with a bit of stretch and some light distressing and casual fading. They hit perfectly at my ankle and I like the slimming effect they have.

I got them in my usual size 28.

Sezane Ralph Jacket Fall Monochrome Outfit

DL1961 Enora Cigarette High Rise Jeans

DL1961 is another denim brand I used to shop and recently revisited because I loved the wash of these jeans. They don’t have a lot of stretch which is how I prefer most of my denim and they hit right below my ankle. I think they are a good jean you can easily dress up.

I took my usual size 28 in this pair.

Agolde Vintage High Rise Boot Jeans

Agolde Vintage High Rise Boot Jeans

Based on how these looked on the model I was expecting a different jean that was more ankle length but the model must have been very tall! Regardless, I actually like how on trend this style looks on me – more of a 90s jean.

I took these in my usual size 28 as they are fitted through the hips.

Now onto a few pairs I’ve had for several years and am keeping in the rotation this year…

Levi’s Wedgie Straight Jeans

These Levi’s Wedgie Straight Jeans jeans are just so comfy and I absolutely love how they look with heels. They were one of my original straight leg pairs I bought years ago.

I get questions on these every time I wear them on Instagram and truth be told I tried A LOT of pairs of Levi’s before I found these and fell in love. I wear them in a size 28 and they’re a little baggie like the mom-jean style should be.

For just $98 you can’t beat the price and wear on these jeans.

My Favorite and Most-Worn Jeans

Levi’s Straight Wedgies

The Levi’s Straight Wedgies with no-distressing are a perfectly chic jean. Bought these immediately after I wore the other pair so much.

Agolde Riley Jeans

My favorite straight leg, cropped jeans are the Agolde Riley Jeans. These are a pretty rigid denim in certain washes/fabrics (like the ones above) but I love how flattering they are and that they hit me right above the ankle. I wear them in a size 28 but would recommend sizing up in between sizes and you want to choose a no-stretch denim. For stretch denim, you may consider sizing down.

Given their popularity (they have a cult status following!), the brand has released them in a variety of washes, lengths, rises and fabrics. That being said, I recommend buying more than one pair to try and see which suits you best!

I now have a small collection of the various fabrics and washes.

Agolde Riley Jeans and Bash Paris Jacket Fall Style

I also bought them in a dark wash for Fall and Winter wear and wear them loads!

This wash has a bit more give than my others. I believe the brand has started listing whether that particular denim has stretch or not.

Levi's 501 Crop Jeans

Levi’s 501 Crop

Iconic jeans for good reason! At 5’5″ I love the Levi’s 501 crop because of where they fall above my ankle. These are kind of like the original straight leg jean. They have the signature button fly, a high rise and are fitted through the hip and thigh. They are a super flattering jean on I think!

They come in loads of washes and colors and are just $98. I wear my usual size 28.

Agolde Stovepipe Jeans

Agolde High Rise Stovepipe Jeans

The Agolde High Rise Stovepipe Jeans are one of my most 90s jeans. This classic high rise straight jean features a slim leg designed to elongate your frame. They run quite long (I am 5’5″ for reference) and have slim, straight leg. I have the Helm wash in size 28.

Also available at Net a Porter.
