Today I am so excited to kick off a new series for Fall: French Girl Closet Staples! I’ll be sharing a post every week with items I believe to be core, staple pieces that are inspired by classic French Girl style. This year more than ever I believe in doubling down on investment pieces you’ll want to wear for many, many years to come. It is how I have aimed to shop largely for the past five years and it has helped me refine my style and love getting dressed more than ever. Today we’re kicking off with a personal favorite item: jeans!
French Girl Closet Staples
A French girl’s closet is often all about the basics and jeans are no exception. You won’t often see French women wearing distressed jeans or trendy denim. Rather they’re much more about timeless silhouettes that have passed the test of time. I have a few jeans I always reach for (and I always bring with me to Paris) because they are very timeless, they make me feel good when I put them on, they can be styled a variety of ways and they have classic silhouttes.
The Classic Jean:
The Agolde Toni in Obscure is my go-to French Girl inspired jean. This pair is incredibly versatile and on my 5’5″ frame is is the perfect ankle length jean. These mid-rise jeans are so comfortable and go with nearly every shoe I own. The slight fading makes them perfectly lived-in and the 5 pockets make them have a flattering fit. There is a little stretch to these jeans making them great for every day wear. I wear these so, so often. I own them in a size 27.
Another good option is the Citizens of Humanity Rocket Crop jean which pairs well with both flats and over booties as seen below. They have a bit wider opening at the ankle than the Agolde Toni jeans and they also have a bit more stretch. I wear size 28 but could have sized down to 27.
The High Waisted Jean:
I first bought the Agolde Nico Jeans in September 2018 and fell completely in love with them. I had never felt so good in jeans before! And they are the best high waisted jeans I’ve ever found and I wear them non-stop. They work with so many shoe types (they hit just below the ankle on me) and they are an incredibly flattering fit. They have very little stretch but that’s what I think makes them look so good on (I sacrifice comfort for fit on these!)
In particular on this pair, I love the super high rise, the button fly and the thicker fabric. They instantly slim out my hips and minimize my love handles and for this I am eternally grateful. The back pockets also have a lifting effect so your booty looks good. These jeans were also one of my top sold items for 2019. After wearing my first pair of Nico jeans so much when they came out in this darker wash I knew I had to have them. Both pairs are in heavy rotation for me.
The Ankle Length Black Jean:
I never go to Paris without a pair of ankle-length cropped black jeans and they are a favorite pick this time of year to pair with all my ivory sweaters. They are such a staple for me and pair so well with so many pieces in my closet. The Agolde Sophie Jean is my current favorite pair. I wear a size 28 in this jean. This style features a high-rise, skinny silhouette and is cropped at the ankle to pair with a myriad of different shoes. I love how dark the black wash is on these jeans. They are particularly perfect with a flat shoe in my opinion.
. . .
I am very particular about my denim and have enjoyed refining my collection to those that make me feel great and I always love hearing how much you all love these Agolde jeans I’ve been recommending for years at this point!
I hope you’ll find this series helpful for the upcoming season + for years to come!
