I finally got my act together and went grocery shopping the other night for the first time in far too long. And, even more difficult than dragging myself there, was sticking to my determination to shop for healthy foods that are filling and won’t make me feel uber-guilty for eating them. Yes, this is harder than one might think.
When I had finally made my way through the whole store I was rather pleased with the contents of my cart. Celery, Apples (to go with peanut butter of course), salad, Craisins, loads of cereal, rice cakse, low fat soups and yogurts…pretty much everything was either “Low Fat,” “Low Cal” or relatively healthy on its own. AND, even more surprising, NO tollhouse cookies and NO ice cream (yes, ladies, these are my downfalls…time…and…time…and…time…again!)
So here I am feeling all sorts of good when all of a sudden I see my total cost flash across the screen. $160!! Boo. I know it costs more to eat more healthily, but honestly this seems like some sort of mean, unfair trick! (My typical damage is around $90…)
So tell me, what do you do to cut costs and calories? Any tips for those WITs looking to trim down and get fit (enter my gym membership)? I’ve got some ideas, but I’d love to hear any healthy snacks you have that keep you energized and full throughout the day!
