What I love about traveling in France is the variety of landscapes, experiences and cultural offerings throughout its various regions. I have been lucky enough to travel to Bordeaux previously and I loved the area.
But, more recently, I returned to experience Les Sources de Caudalie which turned out to be one of my favorite hotel experiences I have ever had. Nestled among the vines of the Bordeaux region, Les Sources de Caudalie is just a twenty minute drive from the Bordeaux train station which you can reach by an express train from Paris in just over two hours.
Les Sources de Caudalie Review
Les Sources de Caudalie feels special from the moment you are greeted upon arrival. The recently renovated hotel is equal parts understated elegance and country chic.
Just across from the hotel, you’ll find Château Smith Haut Lafitte. This winery is from the same owners and it is a wonderful place to visit to enjoy wine tasting while you’re staying at the hotel.
The hotel is so special and offers so much to do that you’ll want to enjoy more than one evening on property. You can take bikes to bike ride among the vineyards, take a self guided walk through the forest and the hotel’s sculpture garden and of course soak up the beautiful amenities on property like the spa and various dining options.
What I loved is that it is a hotel whose ambiance invites you to relax. There’s no need to be overbooked or over-scheduled when you stay here. Instead, it is a warm invitation to relax and unwind. We stayed on property the entire two days and could have done so for longer!
Les Sources de Caudalie Rooms
Depending on your length of stay, budget and party size, Les Sources offers a variety of room levels from which to choose.
Comfort Room
The base level rom at Les Sources is their Comfort Rooms. They are about 25 square meters in size.
Prestige Room
The next level up are the Prestige Rooms that all feature beautiful earthy tones, fine woods, and luxury fabrics in a space of about 30 square meters.
Junior Suite
The Les Sources Junior Suites offer space, comfort and elegance. Each one is decorated differently and all feature a cozy lounge area.
Prestige Suite
Offering loads of space to enjoy your stay, the signature suites are designed to feel like you’re staying in a family home.
Signature Suite
The Les Sources Signature Suites offer exclusivity in that they are tucked away from the other rooms so you’re treated to the utmost in privacy and serenity while on property. Each features unobstructed views of the beautiful Bordeaux landscape and the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte.
In the Heart of the Springs Suite
This apartment features two spacious bedrooms overlooking the vineyards and the garden with a large living room with dining area, a kitchenette and 2 bathrooms. Ideal for larger groups or families and perfect for longer stays at Les Sources.
Aux Oiseaux Suite
Offering the utmost in luxury on the property, the Aux Oiseaux Suite at Les Sources overlooks the natural pond of the estate and was designed to be a true haven of peace. It features a small terrace and is roomy with 50 square meters of space to enjoy.
Les Sources de Caudalie Spa
Given the hotel’s relationship to the Caudalie brand, no trip to this property is complete without a treatment at their Vinothérapie spa. In addition to offering spa treatments like facials and massages utilizing the Caudalie line of skincare and bodycare, the spa itself is absolutely stunning with two different pools and loads of natural light flooding in.
In addition to the indoor and outdoor pools, at the spa you will find a hammam steam room as well as a natural hot water bath jacuzzi with water that comes directly from the hot spring 540 meters below ground.
The spa treatments offered are rather heavenly. You can choose from a variety such as:
- A Crushed Cabernet body scrub
- Signature massages
- A honey & wine body wrap
- AVinergetic C+ facial treatment
- A Resveratrol Lift facial treatment
I enjoyed a relaxing and hydrating facial on site and then spent time in each of the pools as well as the wine barrel bath hot tub outside that overlooks the vineyards. If you visit in the Spring and Summer there is also an outdoor pool to take advantage of.
And over by the fitness center, on the other side of the hotel’s property, don’t miss the stunning indoor pool.
Les Sources de Caudalie Restaurants
La Grand Vigne
La Grand Vigne is the fine dining, two Michelin starred restaurant on property by chef Nicolas Masse. He harnesses the best produce and from the hotel’s organic vegetable garden, bee garden and farm while also sourcing from the best producers in the Bordeaux region.
We absolutely loved our tasting menu with inventive flavors and presentation alongside the pairings featuring regional wines. I highly recommend you dress up one evening and indulge in a leisurely evening here enjoying the menu’s flavors alongside excellent service. The hotel concierge can book you a table which is highly recommended, particularly in peak season.
The La Grand Vigne dining room is also where you can enjoy a stunning and ornate breakfast buffet every morning. While you could choose to have breakfast via room service, I can’t recommend the buffet enough. The dining room is flooded with light in the morning and everything we ate was absolutely divine. The freshly baked Madeleines in particular were so, so memorable.
La Table du Lavoir
The hotel’s casual bistro is a beautiful vaulted wooden barn-like feeling space with a cozy fireplace. It serves up regional fare in a low-key setting. It is recommended you have the front desk make a reservation for you.
Rouge
This gourmet tapas bar also boasts an Epicerie perfect for picking up souvenirs like local olive oils, wines, sweets and more. The light bites and snacks are delicious and it is the perfect place for a casual lunch or an afternoon glass of wine.
Bar Le French Paradox
The bar space at Les Sources is so beautifully designed and the perfect place for a nightcap just off the hotel lobby. The bartenders are mixing up cocktails inspired by the terroir but they can also do a great take on any classic cocktails, too. We loved spending time in this cozy setting especially with the roaring fireplace.
The bar also has an exclusive collection of vintage cognacs, whiskeys and other digestifs if that’s of interest to you.
