This year, NYE was a no brainer. Our friends were renting out a bar in San Francisco and no matter what we wore, it was guaranteed to be great. Actually that’s a complete lie, of course what we wore was important.
I resisted every urge to snatch up a cute holiday frock because I had been losing my mind shopping (not all for myself, thank you very much), so I wanted to wear something I already had. Until I had a brilliant idea….one that probably a million other girls had too, but at the time it was like an a-ha moment. For the past year, I’ve always wanted to try Rent the Runway, and what better time than NYE to try it out.(Want to try it out for yourself? Go here.)
Naturally as soon as I told Meghan my brilliant plan, she was no longer happy with her out-of-our-closet-dress, so she jumped on the bandwagon. As a quick recap, Rent the Runway is a beyond brills idea in which you rent designer dresses for a super cheap price (go here for our post about the site when it launched). You get to pick two sizes to be sent to you and the general rental period is four days. Pretty amazing when you’re picking between a Christian Siriano and a Yigal Azrouel.
While it was quite the decision as to what to pick, it was only made worse by the fact that I hatched this idea about a week prior to NYE which meant a lot of dresses were already reserved. I ended up picking my most favorite Halston Heritage dress that I’ve gushed about before while Meghan picked this red Robert Rodriguez one shoulder number.
I was beyond excited that I had the Halston dress en route to San Francisco by way of NYC, but unfortunately for me, the snowpacalypse crushed that dream and as a result my dress was stuck somewhere in the snowy abyss of NYC. Luckily for me I had a Rent the Runway stylist call me ASAP and stay on the line with me until we found a dress I liked that was in my size that they could overnight to me. While I nearly had a panic attack trying to pick another dress, all turned out well as stylist Melissa G. was beyond patient with my indecisiveness. I ultimately chose this Rebecca Taylor Dancer Bodice dress in black. The dresses arrived on time and in perfect condition — early enough for us to accessorize and feel great in. We had a great time, and let me just tell you this little Rebecca Taylor number is SO MUCH FUN to dance in… it twirls like you wouldn’t believe.
Overall the experience was great and we’d for sure do it again. Only slight hiccup besides not being able to wear the Halston, was we couldn’t return the dresses in a normal mail drop box as the packages were too large. But a quick trip to the post office had them back on their way home to NYC in no time.
Both these dresses are so cute! I’ve been curious about RTW… wasn’t sure if it would be better to put that money towards purchasing a fun dress I could actually keep. But I may just have to try it!
You both look fantastic!!!
