{scenes} from los angeles

February 27, 2012

This past weekend in Santa Monica was the perfect balance between work and play. I spent Saturday at the Independent Spirit Awards for work and then spent the rest of my time eating my way through the city (it appears from photos above!)

I had amazing Huevos Rancheros at the Loews where I stayed, tasted the most amazing dessert at Gjelina (a salted caramel pot de creme!), had margaritas watching the sunset, brunched at Shutters on the Beach, downed a coffee from my favorite, Peet’s and treated myself to pastries and macarons at Bottega Louie and enjoyed all of these things with great family & friends who live in the area. As I sat watching the sunset last night from the beach by myself, I realized I am definitely most at home in California (as much as I love New York).

Hope you all enjoyed the weekend! And for all who commented or tweeted at me from this, I so, so appreciate you.

I was once a New Yorker too and then ended up back in LA. What you say is so true! Something about the ocean makes you feel like you’re always on vacation…totally different than the craziness of NYC. I miss so many things about NY but feel most at home in LA too. Don’t worry, you have plenty of your life to live in sunshine and palm trees…we’ll be here when you’re ready! 🙂 xxoo

Oh I understand how you feel! I lived in the OC for almost 5 years and when the economy went down the tubes I moved back to my hometown to stay with relatives. I miss SoCal SOOO much! I’ve lived in several different states, but that is the one that I felt most like “me”. Except for the feeling of envy I often had for all of the Newport Beach women I would see spending their days shopping at Fashion Island. So maybe when I (hopefully) go back I’ll live further north.
It’s good that you know where you feel the most at home. That’s an important step. Congrats!
