Simplifying Your Beauty Routine I wit & whimsy

With summer in full swing (hello, humidity!) I have recently been taking steps to simplify my beauty routine. Ain’t nobody need a lot of makeup on their face giving their pores a mild heart attack. So today I’m sharing a few ways to simplify your beauty routine when it is hot, hot, HOT out.

Choose products that do double duty.

The Cynthia Rowely beauty sticks were one of the best Birchbox discoveries I had. I have both the pink and the bronze. I sweep the pink on my cheeks and also dab it on my lips. They are also lightweight and perfectly sheer.

Go for more sheer eye shadows & skip eyeliner.

Don’t go heavy on your eyes in the summer. Rely on a few sweeps of Stila’s Kitten applied with the Eco Tools shadow brush from this darling set that is perfect for travel and then layer on mascara (this is my favorite.) By avoiding eye liner you’ll also avoid that dreaded smear-effect that can happen to your liner when you overheat. Also I highly recommend this Buxom eye-shadow set – it is customizable so you can pop out the individual shadows and swap them out when you travel. File under: #Brilliance.

Avoid foundation at all costs.

Don’t clog your pores. Sweat + foundation = skin disasters (in my experience.) In summer I switch out foundation for a lightweight tinted moisturizer for days when I’m shooting or am going out at night and need a bit more staying power on my face. I love Laura Mercier’s. Make sure to smooth it and blend it with the proper brush. It’s light but provides just enough hydration and coverage. (and in case you’re interested, more on properly washing your face here.)

And last but not least, don’t forget to set your newly simplified look with a makeup setting spray. It’s like a secret weapon for hot days.

What are your favorite tips for summer beauty?
