One of the reasons I love trying different beauty brands (and working with beauty brands to do their PR) is because I love the science behind cosmetics and skin care. I have found the R&D process for the creation of these products so interesting since I was young and used to pour over the ingredients and “how to” instructions of products I would try out. And today? I still do.
For a while now I’ve been wanting to try out SK-II Facial Treatment Essence and even had it in my Sephora cart (the reviews are so good!) so it was serendipitous when the brand reached out asking if I’d try out their iconic product often referred to as “miracle water.”
As background, the Facial Treatment Essence features the highest concentration (over 90%) of Pitera – the ingredient used in the entire SK-II line that’s credited with helping to moderate the skin surface renewal cycle.. It balances your skin so it feels hydrated and elastic.
I’ve long been interested in taking care of my skin but when I was younger I was never great about wearing sunscreen and now feel like I am playing catch up in some respect to some early damage done. That’s why I became even more obsessed with skin care in my 20s. Now that I am 30, I give my skin extra TLC. I cleanse, hydrate, mask, tone, exfoliate, use an eye cream…you name it. All in the name of well-taken-care-of, glowing skin.
What I love about the Facial Treatment Essence is that it is like a green juice for your skin. It actually imparts nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and minerals into your skin. As you use it regularly, it actually helps your skin to better absorb your serum and moisturizer — aka it makes the products you’ve already spent money on work even harder. Now that is science I can definitely get behind.
So how do you use it? Apply it to your skin after cleanser (both day and night) and before any serums or moisturizers you use. Sprinkle it into your palm and then press it gently and evenly onto your skin. Your skin should absorb the Essence quickly and naturally. (As I’ve been testing it out, this is generally the time I brush my teeth and then move on to applying any serums or moisturizers.)
I love how my skin has been feeling soft and less sensitive after using it. (I’d been trying out some other products recently that were making my skin so red and itchy and this Essence actually helped to calm some of that down #thankgoodness.) If you’re looking for something that’s an easy addition to your skin care routine, I’d definitely recommend this. Plus a little goes a long way so while the price may seem steep, you don’t have to use that much each time.
What’s your favorite way to take care of your skin? I always love hearing other people’s recommendations!
