Styling shorts is almost always associated with summertime. But I’d beg to differ. I used to have this pair of silk shorts in San Francisco that I loved styling with tights because of the cooler temps that city usually experienced. Like most people, I typically don’t find solid silk shorts the most realistic type of fabric for warmer months (you can probably guess why. Nobody needs silk sticking to them on the subway platform when New York’s humidity gets out of control…)
…but I do love silk shorts for transitional dressing. When the weather has just started to get warmer but really still requires tights and a lighter jacket. Enter: this look. I have some green silk shorts but when I saw these Madewell ones for under $60, I knew I wanted a pair in black for my rotation. I have to say I think the cut of them is so flattering! I’m only 5 ft. 5 inches but when paired with heeled booties – my legs look so much longer than usual in these photos! (Or maybe just maybe all my barre classes have been paying off? #agirlcandream).
I paired these shorts with a lighter weight cashmere sweater (Everlane makes my favorite & it comes in a lot of colors! Not to mention for $110 the quality far exceeds that of a J.Crew or similar cashmere sweater style that is usually double the price…) Topped off with my leather jacket (hands down the best investment piece I’ve ever bought.) The temperature was about 55 or 60 degrees and I was perfectly content in this outfit. I wanted to share this ensemble because I feel like you see shorts like this style in the stores always around this time of year but it can lead to a giant question mark about how to actually style them.
Voila – hopefully you like the inspiration. Below are more shorts that are either silk or similar in shape/style. Almost all are under $75!
