the beauty edit: 7 drugstore must-haves

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 9.39.45 PMEver since I can remember I have absolutely loved spending time in the beauty aisles of drugstores. I remember getting my drivers license and when bored in high school, I’d drive over to my neighborhood drugstore and just wander and wander. I’d pick up a new mascara or try a new product I had read about in a magazine. Guess what? I still love doing that. And sometimes you can’t really beat the amazing drugstore beauty buys.

I’ve rounded up my favorite drugstore beauty buys for today’s post and I would absolutely love to hear your favorites so I can try them when I do my next “haul” at my local Duane Reade!

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner: I had this eyeliner sampled to me at my first Fashion Week way back in 2010. It remains my favorite. The brush makes it easy to apply (I am the worst at applying liquid eyeliner so gel is my BFF) and it has serious staying power.

Almay Soothing & De-puffing Eye Makeup Remover Pads: Taking off my eye makeup has to be one of my least favorite things in life but these pads make it so much less painful. I used to use expensive eye makeup remover that came in a bottle but once I started traveling several times a month, I came to rely on these Almay pads. I just get to throw the canister in my suitcase & go!

Physicians Formula Multi-Colored Bronzer Multi-Colored Powder Palette, Healthy Glow Bronzer: I’ve tried way more bronzers than I care to admit. Fancy ones from department stores, the “latest and greatest” from events and many from Sephora, but the one I always come back to and swear by is from Physicians Formula. I wear it every day (I know, I know makeup artists tell you only wear bronzer when you need to) but I just feel better with it on. We all have our vices, right?

Clear Damage and Color Repair Shampoo and Clear Damage and Color Repair Conditioner: Clear is my favorite brand of drugstore hair care that I’ve ever discovered. This particular part of the line is awesome for color-treated hair and hair that’s heavily heat styled (raises hand!) It restores your scalp’s natural moisture balance and leaves your hair soft and shiny. I rotate this duo in regularly every week.

Jergens Natural Glow Firming Moisturizer: After looking through some old photos recently I was reminded how much I enjoy having a “tan”. Frankly, I can’t afford to spend that much time in the sun so faux is the way to go for me. I have to wear sunscreen and avoid direct rays after too many bad burns when I was younger so Jergens is my favorite when it comes to having some “color.” I know this product has had some faux-pas in the past (pun intended) – bad smell, staining sheets but it has only continued to get better so it remains my number 1 choice. (You won’t find me in a tanning bed ever again.)

Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 55: I wish I had become as obsessed with using SPF earlier on in life but now I am finally using sunscreen rather religiously when I’ll be outdoors for extended periods of time. This particular one from Neutrogena doesn’t clog pores and isn’t thick.

And when you’re testing out beauty products or doing a trial run on a new beauty look before you take it outdoors, don’t forget to do so with a glass of vino. You have my full permission for some proper “me time.” We all need it, don’t we?

And in an unrelated note, PSA that J.Crew is offering 25% off your order currently (my heart is set on these) and my favorite sweater dress is back in stock here!

This post is brought to you as a part of my collaboration with Seven Daughters wine as part of their Savvy Seven. All opinions are my own – thank you for supporting brands that help keep WIT & Whimsy’s doors open!
