There’s no doubt that I’m a jeans girl. They are my go-to on a daily basis and as much as I love dressing up (isn’t this blog a daily dress-up in its own right?), my denim collection speaks to my true style. That being said, I’ve amassed quite a variety of denim but recently got a reader inquiry about what types of denim every girl should have in their closet – so today I’m sharing my POV on the matter!
Below you’ll find the 6 essential denim types I deem important for every girl to have in their closet. Below each type I have linked to a variety of currently available styles. Of note, any of the styles available at Shopbop, you can take advantage of their sale going on right now (the rest of my picks can be found here)!

1. The ankle length: This pair is best worn with pumps. Paired together, they’ll elongate your legs and allow you to avoid that dreaded bunch at your ankle. Also, keep in mind that if you find a pair that you absolutely love but they are too long, get them hemmed! (Remember my PSA about tailoring?!)

2. The Distressed Pair: I live in my distressed denim. I dress up the pairs for work throughout the week and then wear them out on the weekends with a top, leather jacket + a favorite pair of heels. I’ve also been pairing them with my chambray tops of recent (case in point here & here.) I have these, these, these and these #obsessedmuch? My family members always ask if I pay more for the holes but hey, a girl and her denim love affair cannot be stopped…

3. The Everyday Skinny: These jeans should be your go-to. You love them so much that you get them in two washes. They are the denim you turn to when you don’t know what else to wear. They make you feel good and they can be worn any which way. These are my go-tos. I bought them in a lighter wash, too and a high-rise version (for the days you really want to feel all tucked in – ha!)

4. The Boyfriend Jean: I love a boyfriend jean when styled properly. If you’re on the shorter side, pair them with heels or heeled booties(I am only 5′ 5″ so I always stick to this rule of thumb), but if you’re taller, I actually love the look of boyfriend jeans with slip ons for a more tomboy style. I have these and they are by far my favorite. The fit is just baggy enough but they are still slim so they don’t look overly slouchy or undone.

5. The Black Jean: These are underrated in my opinion. I think they are great for dressing up or dressing down and can be really flattering, not to mention a nice change from the every day blue jean. I own this pair (the “legging” fit is awesome) and also have a distressed pair for more casual days.

6. The White Jean: Biggest mistake women make when it comes to denim, in my opinion, is not having a good pair of white jeans. Second biggest mistake? Thinking they are only to be worn in Spring and Summer. Wear them ALL.YEAR.LONG. They look so good when paired with cozy layers and I love all white looks, as seen above. Not to mention dressing in all neutrals (white paired with tan/cream/ivory/beige) is so chic looking.
So there you have it! My 6 quintessential pairs of jeans you should have in your closet. Hope you found this helpful & would love to know your favorite pairs!
I love this! I have so many pairs of black jeans (black skinny, black distressed, black tuxedo, black boyfriend), but what I actually lack is a few good pairs of true blue jeans. I just ordered like 10 different washes (in a basic and distressed skinny) during the Shopbop sale. Hoping a couple work out!!
