the flawless face

I recently had the pleasure of teaming up with Laura Mercier to hear about their newest foundation and the brand’s heritage and aesthetic over all. Laura Mercier invited me to Bloomingdale’s to meet with one of their Global Artists, Patrick, and I had the best time chatting with him to hear more about the brand while he gave me my own “flawless face.”

Laura Mercier herself is a world-renowned makeup artist and actually started her career in painting (such a fun fact!). She’s been the personal makeup artist for celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts, and she always aims to accentuate one’s natural beauty. What I loved most about Patrick’s take on my look was that it didn’t feel like I was wearing a lot of makeup but rather he picked certain features to highlight and play up. Overall, his technique was simple (make my brows stand out more, use just one shadow shade on my lids, make my skin look utterly flawless), but I was so impressed with the results!

Patrick focused first on getting my skin in order or as Laura Mercier calls it “foundation wardrobing.” He shade matched me and advised the importance of letting tinted moisturizer “warm up on your skin” for about 40 seconds. He stressed you should speak to a makeup artist to get to know your skin’s texture and needs, so you know what will take to it best.

I was matched with their Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain (their tinted moisturizer is a god-send and particularly great as we head into winter when dry patches are more common. My skin errs on the side of oily so the Oil Free version of this cult classic is perfect for me). Then Patrick selected the Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide in Shell to pair with the tinted moisturizer.

Other Laura Mercier favorites:

  • The Crème Smooth Lip Colors
  • Caviar Stick Eye Colours (my favorites are ZYA – Patrick noted the trick to the flawless eye is liner, mascara, and primer – you don’t even need shadow if you don’t want but I highly recommend the Caviar Sticks!)
  • The Foundation Primer (smooth this on before the tinted moisturizer and foundation- the end result is radiant skin)

One of my favorite tricks Patrick taught me was the art of “underlining.” Using the Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner, Patrick wet the liner and used a brush to dot it onto my top lashes on the inside line of my eyelid. The results were so much more striking than when I do my daily eyeliner!
