What Brings You Joy?

What Brings You Joy I wit & whimsy I Central Park

One of the best things I read last year were actually the comments on this blog post about what was inspiring people. It really moved me to see where people were finding inspiration, solace and a bit of peace.

And, with the first three months of this year being filled with people asking “Does it spark joy” when it came to Marie Kondo inspired-clean outs, it got me thinking more about what brings me joy in life. It is also something I’ve had to think about daily as I work to practice gratitude via my 5 Minute Journal.

What Brings You Joy?

Some things that have been bringing me joy lately:

The wit & whimsy x New York Cares volunteer outing this past weekend!

It made me so happy that a group of us came together to donate our Saturdays to the city. We helped weed in the Tompkins Square Garden and it was so great to spend time with and meet some of my readers! To those of you who came out – you gals are the best!!

The Marco Polo video chat threads I have going with my BFFs.

We all live far from each other and have taken up sending these video messages with one another and they bring me so much joy to see their faces throughout the day and hear what’s going on in their day to day lives.

Sunny mornings.

With so much rain over the past month, when I wake up to sun pouring through my windows it makes me so happy.

Long phone calls with my mom.

My mom calls them “our chats” and they’re my favorite.

The promise of summer in the air.

I have a few summer trips booked that I can’t wait for and I’m also already so looking forward to warmer, longer evenings, lots of ice cream, reading in the shade, walks with friends and so many other things that make summer great.

My work.

While this year has been more stressful on the work front, it has also made the rewards all that much sweeter. I’ve managed to broaden my horizons on what constitutes work and I’ve been more purposeful with how I spend my time.

The Brene Brown special on Netflix.

I mentioned it before but it really did speak to me. It also led me to listening to more of her talks on a variety of podcasts and on TED and it led me to begin this book of hers last week which I’m already loving.

Becoming a godmother.

It touched me deeply that my friends would ask me to be the godmother of their son. I am so glad I was able to be a part of the baptism the other weekend and truly honored to play a special role in his life for always.

Pausing my inbox.

More on this to come in a post next week but the joy factor on this one for me is OFF THE CHARTS!

Bee earrings.

While I was in California earlier this month, I was telling my friend Julie about how I was learning to look for more signs in life. This book told me I needed to identify an actual symbol that I could associate with signs of good to come or the universe doing its work and the first thing that came to mind was a bee of all things. Julie shared she had been doing the same of late but lady bugs were her sign. We started to see lady bugs in the next day and after lunch she took me to a shop where she promptly purchased me the sweetest pair of bee earrings she had seen before our conversation. They make me so happy to wear and remember that things are always happening and surrendering control on certain things will lead to goodness.

So now it is your turn…what is bringing you joy these days?

I find joy in that work brings me to you, even for a brief evening! I feel so lucky to have you on the other side of long, but quick business trips. Also, the sweet little laugh of my little guy- it’s truly good for my soul and reminds me to find joy in the littlest (and often times funny things) xoxo

I love this post! Thank you for inspiring me to reflect on the little joys – perfect way to start a dreary Monday morning.

I just bought this shirt to wear on my first day of Vacation

Also, about 6 years ago i needed to find my spirit animal and i went through a process to find it. Once I identified it, saw them everywhere. I believe in those kinds of signs.

Lately for me, it has been spending time outside! Being indoors all day for work is doing nothing for my soul. This weekend, it was gardening with you(!!) & walking around the park and sitting on a bench to watch a little league game for a bit. Sometimes its a short 30 minute walk first thing in the morning. Always worth it!

All that Vitamin D is certainly good for the soul! So glad you were able to be a part of the gardening adventure this past weekend!

Reading is definitely bringing me joy lately. Diving into a good book and losing the afternoon inside another world with a cup of tea or coffee… nothing better.

I had a long discussion with my husband yesterday about social media and he said he’s noticed that when I spend a lot of time scrolling through Instagram (especially on influencer-style channels), I tend to compare myself and wind up more down in the dumps and down on myself than when I opened the app. I took that as a wake-up call last night and unfollowed a lot of accounts that were draining me, making me compare myself, and not bringing me joy! Social media can be such a double edged sword. Happy to say your channel always brings a smile to my face and I love that you go “deeper” than just fashion on your blog (although I always love the fashion too!).
I will be putting that Brene Brown special in my Netflix queue ASAP! Thanks for being a bright spot of the internet for me and so many others 🙂

I have been so off my reading game and need a good book to get back in it! Totally agree that that unplugged time is blissful. And hear you on the Instagram purge – I did that recently – anyone not bringing me joy I clicked UNFOLLOW. I want my time spent on social to be valuable – not mindless. I am truly honored you find wit & whimsy a space that brings you joy. Thank YOU for the kind words that really uplifted me! Can’t wait for you to see the Brene special – report back!!

Meghan, You’re such a ball of positivity! I love coming to your blog to find inspiration, a cute outfit and all around good vibes! Thanks for always radiating sunshine 🙂

  7. What a truly lovely and uplifting post to read! Currently bringing me joy: all the flowers that have suddenly sprung into bloom (after so. much. rain. here in England), going to Paris twice in a month (cannot wait to be back there with you in a couple of weeks!), longer days and the promise of warmer weather, binging on Schitt’s Creek every evening, and my little balcony garden (and getting to eat breakfast and lunch out there most days).
